Hi, in my current PC i have an RX 580 8gb, Ryzen 5 2600 and 32gb of RAM 3000mhz CL 16 (its 3200mhz but i had stability issues and had to put them at 3000).

I recently bought a 165hz monitor but i struggle to reach that fps in CS2, which is the main game i play. I read that its a CPU game, so i guess its time to update the 2600. My goal is basically reaching around the 165-200 fps line in CS2 to benefit from the monitor with the least money possible, but if i get a CPU that will future-proof my build for some years i won’t complain. (mind that i basically never play very demanding games, and when i do i don’t have problems favouring fps over graphics, after all the monitor is a TN haha)

Reading around i stumbled across the 5 5600x (read also a lot about the 5700x3d but its 150 euro more so no thanks) or the 5700x. (if you have other things in mind suggest freely im open to anything)

So my question is which one should i buy and at which price? After a very quick search the 5600x is around 105€ and the 5700x 115€. Also, will the GPU bottleneck be a big problem? Btw i’ll run memtest86 to check if the RAM is faulty cause i was on 3000mhz for years but i feel like if i upgrade the CPU i should at least max the ram frequency.

did you mean 5600F? (never mind, I read 5600i lol) for €11, get the X then because the F is a step below the 5600.

depending on how much you want to spend, and keeping in mind that the 5600 is more than enough to get to your maximum refresh rate, an then some, I’d get the 5600/5600X and save the money.

at your resolution (1024*768?) that video shows even higher FPS so I really don’t see the need to go for a 5700X.

you’re right that your current bottleneck is the CPU

sorry for the confusion, i made a typo hahaha

I asked about the 5700x cause the price seemed not too high and if i could get some more “future proofing” and cores for the right price i could get me to spend some 25€ more.

But if you say its not worth the money more i think i’ll stick to the 5600 or 5600X. :)

I can’t really tell, because your use-case is very different from mine and could change in the future. a 5600 gets you 250+ FPS at 1024*768 in CS2, and with it the bottleneck in other, more modern games, will be the GPU instead, so I think spending 20% more for a 5700X when the 5600 is more than enough for your monitor is a bit of wasted money… you could save that for a newer GPU once you find that yours isn’t enough anymore.

just watch videos titled 5600 RX580 + name-of-the-game-you-play and then do the same with 5700X instead and see for yourself if it’s worth the higjer price or not!

      No no, i meant the R7 5700X.

Im asking just because if the 5700x is a good offer for 130€, i can get me to spend something more for some more power and cores for the future. If you think its not worth the money more and dont really need ill settle for the 5600x.
