Nota Baloyi, a South African who spoke to The Intercept on Wednesday, had his visa revoked for tweeting that Kirk “won’t be remembered as a hero. He was used to astroturf a movement of white nationalist trailer trash!”
Last Friday he received a brief email notification from the U.S. consular office revoking his visa. The message made no reference to his social media activity.
Revoking this guy’s visa doesn’t change the fact that Kirk was used to astroturf a movement of white nationalist trailer trash. In fact, it rather of confirms it. If I were to, say, tweet that “Charlie Kirk was an endangered white rhinoceros wearing a bow tie,” they would’ve ignored it. (Hint: People don’t get angry about claims which are obviously false.)
whitewashing, normalizing far right movements.
What does that mean?
It means I didn’t proofread my comment.
