Could this just be an NPC during the tutorial, and then they get brutally murdered during the first encounter and then you have to fend for yourself on a remote planet. Maybe it turns out motherbrain inhabitants that NPCs body as a puppet for a boss battle or something? And if was MGS, the puppet NPC would tell you the wrong things to do during the battle.
Unlikely since he appears in the recent trailer where Samus has upgraded armor along with several other federation pals. There’s also a log entry for him alongside 5 empty spaces, indicating you’ll need to do this rescue/escort thing with 6 different NPCs throughout the game.
According to the overview trailer you’ll meet federation troopers “occassionally”. I’m pretty sure Miles will only be around during the early game, but there will be other NPCs later on. Does sound like you’ll be alone most of the time though. I’m not a fan of what I’ve seen of Miles at all, but I do enough have faith in retro studios to be sure that they won’t give us a quippy sidekick for the entire game.
