I’m still planning on going through the entire Trails series at some point, but I’m still debating on whether to play these or the originals.
On one hand, these are probably the most polished games in the series, right? Spoiling me for the rest of it. On the other hand, having played the demo for the first one, I still thought it felt somewhat awkward and clunky. Making me think I might not enjoy the originals.
What’s consensus on this? Does it make sense to start with the remakes?
I have played the first game, the original one, started the second one but dropped it in the start, planning to play the remakes now. I don’t know what the consensus in general is, but the remake got good reviews so going to play those.
I played the original trilogy and tried the demo for the remake.
I would recommend playing the remakes, as most fans do from what I’ve seen.
The reasoning is, while the original Sky trilogy has a certain charm to it and decent QoL features, they are a bit dated at this point and only playable on PC and PS4 (or PSP, without said QoL). While the remakes are avaliable on more platforms and have superior QoL and gameplay improvements from more modern games in the series.
A point of contention to this is the third game, which hasn’t been confirmed if it will be remade, but that game is arguably optional entry since its more of a spin-off that sets up future games in the series (still a pretty good game). You can play Sky 1st and 2nd remakes and have a full experience, then if you feel inclined to you can jump to another arc you prefer.
