You know, I’ve been keeping my mouth shut because I don’t know that much about Venezuela…
But now that Maduro’s VP has expressed a willingness to cooperate with Trump, I think everyone who disputed the claims that Maduro and Chavismo were corrupt has some explaining to do.
I feel like the leftists who supported Chavismo and the right-wingers who backed US intervention should all go out for drinks and commiserate over their foolishness for thinking that they could overlook their allies obvious corruption. Am I wrong?
The claims Maduro stole the election are bullshit, but even if they weren’t, the US and EU wielded sanctions like a club against Venezuela to drop a big weight on the scales.
Hey Cowbee, I see you often here, commenting on the election results. This will be ignored by liberals because they’re too far into propaganda, so instead I made a little copypaste explaining why there cannot be free and fair elections in Venezuela. Feel free to use any or all of it:
Maduro is not an illegitimate leader. The Bolivarian revolution was widely supported among the people of Venezuela and freed millions from poverty, until USA sanctions demolished their economy. The express purpose of USA sanctioning, according to the US government is to, and I quote, “bring about hunger, desperation and overthrow of government”. USA+EU sanctions additionally murder half a million innocents per year according to recent serious sociologic and medical studies.
By defending regime change under extreme economic sanctioning, you’re approving the murders of 38 million people over the past 50 years of economic sanctions, and directly supporting the CIA strategy of “impoverish them until they change their minds”.
i think ‘blockade’ better describes it, but yeah just good ol western imperialism doing everything they can to keep us poor. and fuck if they would let socialists or anti imperialists thrive.
Crazy to see people smile benignly while US Presidents shake hands with Saudi Kings and Egyptian Dictators, only to discover their love for democracy when a socialist they don’t like secures a 7-pt election lead.
If the J6ers had all been Venezuelan, I wonder if liberals would have stood back and let the US Congress get lynched?
That one was honestly hilarious. Kashoggi was a total swamp monster, but he ended up with the wrong faction in the power struggle in Sa so he got butchered. Karma.
I thought I remembered something weird but still that was gruesome. If execution must be done, quickly and humanely, but I’m generally opposed to the death penalty.
Can you point me to some links regarding why he was not great?
Delcy Rodríguez is sworn in as Acting President of Venezuela. She says she is doing so as “Executive Vice President of Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro Moros.” She states that she does so “with the pain of the Venezuelan people after an illegitimate military aggression in our homeland, due to the kidnapping of two heroes we have as hostages in the United States: President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores. I come with pain, but I also come with honor, to swear in the name of all Venezuelans.”
Rodríguez isn’t cooperating with the US. Rubio made it seem like she is, but the government of Venezuela is consolidated around Maduro, and the millitary also supports him due to the legacy of the Bolivarian revolution.
Her subsequent statement (on Instagram, in English, and which some media is describing as “conciliatory” while selectively quoting from it) can be read here. When you read it in full you can see she is not recanting her earlier statement and is clearly still not distancing herself from Maduro. She is (consistently with him) imploring the US to follow international law and respect Venezuelan sovereignty.

Who let the anarkid speak at the adults’ table?
100% false. Do not trust anything just because “Trump says” or “Rubio says”
you guys are aware venezuela has most of the issues it currently does directly because of us aggression, right?
there is no both sides here. the venezuelans are only victims of the empire.

Thanks, comrade! This excellently shows that sanctions aren’t an alternative to war, but are war in a different shape. Great job!

Death to empire.

Jamal Kashoggi

I’m not saying both sides are equally culpable. Obviously Trump, Biden, Obama, and all of their Sec. of State are the primary villain.
The problem is that you’re confidently adopting a line convenient for the state department on shaky allegations.
It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.

What makes you think that? Is your news diet limited to Fox/CNN/NPR/etc?
FYI here is a translation of her speech, and here is the video of it.
