The Incident: Renee Nicole Goode (37, poet and mother) was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) fire on Wednesday, January 7, in Minneapolis while inside her vehicle.
Reason for Outrage: There is a stark conflict in narratives; the Trump administration labeled her a “domestic terrorist” who attempted to run over agents, while her family and circulating videos insist she was trying to drive away and the shooting was aggressive and unjustified. Additionally, the victim was a U.S. citizen and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, which broadened the scope of solidarity with her.

And when communists look at these protests and dismiss them outright, they ignore any of the material realities of these events. The reality is, people like the PSL are within these protests. Liberal protest does not build class consciousness on its own, spontaneous action does not spontaneously build a revolutionary movement, or become a revolutionary moment. This is exactly why you need a party actively engaging in these moments, even leading these moments, which in a lot of locations they are. PSL is involved in organizing some of these protests. This is done with the goal of educating the masses.
The reality is, the imperial core is the most resilient stronghold of capitalist ideology. Every revolution that has ever taken place and succeeded has been where the chains of imperialism were weakest. There is no blueprint, no existing and proven strategy, for building a revolutionary movement and succeeding within that stronghold. This stronghold has hundreds of years of playbooks, tactics, and strategies for crushing rising left wing movements. Absolutely demonic forms of physical and psychological torture at both personal and mass scale, built on the decades of imperialist aggression. Entire categories of Marxist thinking, founded by the intelligence communities, for the sole sake of castrating the revolutionary aspects of Marxism and folding into the “compatible left”.
Does it ever make you wonder why the gun culture exists as it does in America? It has deep roots in post civil war America and a drop in demand for guns. To make up for this dramatic drop in demand, new demand needed to be created within the civilian market. Most of this advertising was around hunting, but also included “riot guns”. Jumping on the post-war atmosphere to monetize racism and fears of radicalism, “riot guns” were marketed to business owners as a way to protect the “industrial life of the nation”. The reality is, after the Civil War, the reactionaries and business elites began arming members of their class, and those who shared their class interests. This is what attaches the conservative movement squarely with gun ownership, and why liberal and progressives then associate guns with all the characteristics of the conservative movement. This is why the progressives never armed themselves, and why they shriek about being peaceful.
I could go on, but the conditions required for things to change, are large, and one of them is breaking liberals of the idea that guns are evil, and not simply a tool for demanding and maintaining political agency.

It is a subject to be cautious about in how we discuss it, but it is nevertheless important. If people view morality/ethical action as something the constitution is capable of doing a fine job at as long it’s actualized in its written principles, where will they have the impetus to challenge the colonial roots of it and, by extension, colonialism as a whole? For example, if they see Trump only as someone who is breaking from the constitution rather than seeing him as someone who is behaving much like the genocidal “founding fathers” did: using legality mixed with narrative as a means of enacting their exploitative goals, not as a means of liberation.
Yes breaking peoples faith in the constitution is also necessary. I think you’re average liberal would want the second amendment removed. Which is fine with me. Some of the most restrictive nations on the subject of gun control are AES states. China, Cuba, Venezuela and even historically the USSR had/have strong restrictions on personal ownership of firearms. The difference is that under the dictatorship of the proletariat it is the proletariat class that holds the monopoly on violence.
However, before that can be implemented, it must be made clear to liberals that a force capable of liberating them from fascism, a force able to protect their interests must be armed. The 2nd amendment poses a powerful contradiction in the struggle for social revolution in America.
Prior to the revolution an armed force will have to be built which will strain the existing constitution, forcing disarmament of the movement.
Post revolution disarming reactiaries will be a priority. Drawing a new constitution will eliminate the need for the 2nd amendment since any liberation force that was built on the backs of the 2nd amendment would become the revolutionary guard, taking the role of the military and law enforcement.
The first hurdle is getting liberals to accept armed protection and escort while these protests unfold. This armed protection needs to be trained and ordly. Effectively, a true left wing militia would need to be formed. This structure doesn’t exist in any real capacity, and building it alone would draw attention from the state. Which will pull out the COINTELPRO playbook as a means of disruption.
All of this is a massive undertaking. Nearly every state would need this formation in some way. It will inevitably require a portion of the reactionary population to change sides. What it would take for that to happen is anyone’s guess.
