What type of giant spider are they using to depict a mindflayer? Why are they using a giant spider to depict a mindflayer? Did they not get the rights to D&D?
Looked up “mind flayer spider”. It’s the name of a thing from Stranger Things, not the DnD monster.
I figured it was Stranger Things, but I thought that was a D&D show?
The kids name the monsters after things they’ve recently encountered in D&D, and coincidentally, the monsters tend to have some powers in common with the D&D enemies even if their physical form is way off.
Ahhh, ok that is a reason that works out. Screenwriters having fun is something I can get behind. Blatantly changing the form of a copywrited monster to avoid having to pay royalties, I would be mad about.
Same here. And it’s most certainly not a case of dodging copyright since the show not only proudly uses D&D by name, but there is a heavy amount of cross-promotion going on between the two: https://www.dndbeyond.com/en/strangerthings
It’s just about kids who play D&D, I don’t think it’s ever purported to be a “D&D show”
Reminds me of (the book) World War Z.
The zombie apocalypse only lasted like, 2 weeks or something IIRC, because it didn’t take long for militaries around the world to figure out strategies to contain and destroy the zombies, since zombies don’t think and could be exploited pretty much the same way gamers exploit NPC behavior in a video game.
They didn’t even eradicate zombies. Zombies just became something of a canival act in the new post-zombie world.
Is the movie different? I stopped watching after 30 minutes because it was too stupid.
The movie is exactly 0% like the book, outside of having zombies.
The book is actually good. I still kinda am annoyed that Max Brooks said it wasn’t going to be like the book, but it was still good on its own merit. Cuz, no… It wasn’t.
To be fair in the book the zombies became a non issue once everyone got their shit together and stopped trying to milk the zombies for PR. They just let it get way too far before applying practical solutions instead of trying to showcase the latest lockheed martin product line.
Do mindflayers have oil?
The mindflayer would be unstoppable, in theory or IDK he would have scurried through one of the plotholes back to safety and tried again. Honestly the episodes felt so disconnected, they seem to have edited like half the content out.
I need to say something but I can’t figure out how to do spoilers.
If there was a mind flayer plus like 2 demigorgons, the humans in the battle would have been screwed. The mind flayer is somehow weaker than the low level grunts?? Just like US presidents??
And Hop obviously knows Elevin is still alive in the end, or else he’d be a wreck. IMO
That ending was such a fucking cop out. Literally the only character of consequence that dies the entire series (the dude last season was introduced at the beginning of the season), and at the end they have to be like “actually, she didn’t die because magic”
So lame. Just no stakes whatsoever.
They relied heavily on plot armor.

For a code box like I've done do 3x ` then a line break, whatever you want in the box, a line break and 3x `Edit: needed a code box to show how to do a code box🤦 bracketing text with ` just highlights it
You can escape it with backslashes

TIL!
Well 1 was basically Epstein.
