it’s so wild that she never wants to eat them. I’m eating them! I know it’s yummy! oftentimes it’s stuff with fish or chicken, which she knows the taste of! but never even goes for a nibble, just a sniff.

Honestly quite happy that she’s very stupid. The only way she knows what food is, is if it is in her bowl.

My kitty will smell it and then wipe his paw on the ground a few times indicating that he thinks I should bury it. Same motion he does after he throws up on the hardwood as if to communicate he knows it smells bad and would bury it if he could

My cat does similar when smelling most foods/drinks I may be having, but will straight up start eating anything with egg in it (like challah bread). He also will drink any beer that is Belgian or a trappist ale.

We previously had a cat that ate salsa, and her brother ate an entire sub once. That was pretty funny.

Yeah, he’s tried some lagers of various origins, and didn’t like any of those. He doesn’t seem to like IPAs either. Off the top of my head that’s all I’ve “offered” him, aside from the Belgian and trappist ales he loves. Just to be clear, I never let him straight up drink it (no drunk kitties allowed, lol), I only offer him the little bit of residual liquid on the rim of the bottle/glass when I finish. The only exception was the 1 or 2 times I caught him lapping from a full glass back in the day, before I knew better than to keep it out of his reach.

My cat will attempt to eat anything he thinks is intended to be food, so I have to wrestle him down. Be glad yours only sniffs.

Yes my cat does this too. The only foods that get a modestly interested reaction are sweets, falafel, and cheese. Very different from our previous cat who loved and tried (or wanted to try) all our foods, except eggs.

Their preferences are so specific, and seem mysterious since I don’t understand them!

My cat is the same except she make a really exaggerated gagging expression. I’ve heard of other cats turning around and kicking their feet like they’re trying to bury it in litter.
