This is becoming a problem online in general. Just yesterday there was an article from Android Central making the rounds on the front page of Lemmy about iFixit and Kobo entering into a partnership. Except that partnership was entered into 2 1/2 years ago.
You guys are looking at other people’s accounts for trustworthiness? Most I do is judge people off what instance they’re on (which I feel is simultaneously both a very and also not very “dot world” of me).
That news is from December 2024. So why are you posting this in April 2026?

That was recently relevant in the wake of Amazon bricking older Kindles, I think.
Relevance doesn’t mean burying the lede in regard to when it happened.
It’s a known method of those repost-karma-farming bots on reddit to simply repost older content. We might run into the same issues here on Lemmy.
What’s the incentive for Lemmy? Points/karma doesn’t matter here.
I think here on Lemmy the incentive is comment and post history to have a more trusted account.

Depends on the comment, the post, and how lazy I’m feeling in that particular moment.
