I’m one of them. The income I make would have put me in the upper middle class just five years ago. Now? I save every single dollar. I’ve spent the last year and a half making sure my pantry’s full and I have enough water to last a couple of months. (Not a doomsday prepper, just want to have enough on hand to weather supply chain disruptions.)
I’ve found the disappearance of places I want to go to be very tough for my mental health. The places I do want to go cost significantly more now, and as someone who budgets, I have to determine mathematically if it’s worth the exorbitant cost. Often, I decide it’s not and I stay home instead.
It’s a huge bummer to have lived such a full life until Biden and Donald came along. I know full well what I’m missing, and all to keep about 2000 people so stupidly wealthy that they can brag to each other about who has a few dollars more than the other, because it’s basically impossible for them to spend it all.
If i were to lose my job tomorrow, I’d honestly consider self-deletion, knowing how precarious the job market is now too.
