I think the poem scans better if you use the adjective “bourgeois” (two syllables) instead of the collective noun “bourgeoisie” (three).

Thanks for that. Although I totally don’t want to make this into a sticker and paste it around the town.

My uncle used to be an editor of a small town newspaper back in the 70’s. As kids visiting, he would make us little metal pieces with our names printed backwards, We’d press them in an ink pad and our names would appear correctly when pressed onto a piece of paper. Those little metal pieces he produced for the local news were all backwards as well and placed in a specific way so the printing press would produce the newspaper. I always thought placing those metal pieces in the correct order to produce a newspaper was typesetting.

The bourgeois are not the enemy – it’s the hyper capitalists that set the working classes against the middle classes while draining all value and wealth out of society.

Yes, the bourgeois. Bourgeois means business owners or people who own capital.

Not sure exactly what you’re meaning by “middle class”, but I’m guessing it’s white collar workers (people who’s job is telling other people what to do) and/or “petite bourgeois” (aka small business owners like small tradie businesses or mum and pop shops).

“The bourgeoisie are a social class of business owners, merchants and wealthy people, in general, which emerged in the Late Middle Ages, originally as a “middle class” between the peasantry and aristocracy. They are traditionally contrasted with the proletariat by their wealth, political power, and education, as well as their access to and control of cultural, social, and financial capital.” - from Wikipedia

This is not the Musks, Thiels and Trumps of the world. This is better off, educated people, including the so-called liberal elites, including business owners and traders, including some pretty rich people… but universes apart from the obscene and unimaginable wealth of the real enemy.

It suits these people very well that most people cannot really fathom the difference between owning one million and one billion and one trillion dollars.

The hyper capitalists are bourgeoise too. And there is no “middle class”, those who call themselves that are delusional capitalism cosplayers.
