It’s one of those situations where a woman can’t win because men are describing her actions. “Woman dreams of a life well lived” is the same as “Woman thinks town is beneath her” except hunting lodge chuds are describing her.
As a man who identifies more with Belle than with the rest of the townspeople, I can absolutely tell you that men who don’t conform get treated the exact same way. It’s not a gender thing.
