They will use this for ads as well ( eventually) you will have to watch them to use any of their services unless you pay.

“For users with accessibility needs who cannot use hand gestures to complete the challenge, reCAPTCHA continues to provide visual and audio challenges, and develop more accessible and secure alternatives,” Google said.

That was the last paragraph of the article you didn’t read. I don’t have a camera either, and use a bot to bypass captchas.

You’re assuming I didn’t read the article. Yes, I’m aware of the workaround, I’m saying I won’t be using this validation method as I don’t have a webcam on my computer.

We have reached the point where companies are willing to lose a small number of privacy-oriented users in exchange for detailed data about the rest. I am already running into sites that are not fully functional from a privacy-oriented browser. (For instance, I can no longer see prices or make pledges on Kickstarter when using LibreWolf.) That will get worse, but I also expect some sites to break with Google and Microsoft so they can continue to serve (and make money from) the larger group. It will be interesting to see how it settles out.

In the interest of fairness, I have to post an update. Kickstarter had not done anything about the problem for a while, so I stopped using it. I just discovered today that they actually did fix it.

Man the internet is so fucked now.

Honestly I find myself going more and more old school. Thrift stores, Craigslist, garage sales since the dominant platform here requires a 360 degree set of pictures of your head for verification just to create an account.

More and more I get stonewalled by bullshit like this and I just close the tab in frustration and go elsewhere.

Same with news sites. Scroll down an inch and they paywall you. Well, I already have a shirt attention span. Tab closed.

I hope its not a few that are like me but that a majority will soon start behaving this way.

Big tech is so bad now. All about data collection and monitoring you while making your experience of their product worse over time. Fuck that.

What’s worse is those fucking people that throw up the “I have nothing to hide” argument.

You should. You deserve privacy. Everyone who wants your information just wants to use it to manipulate you. Wake up.

Maybe it’s a sign that it’s time to go outside and touch grass.

Internet has peaked and is now in decline. Glad I got to experience its golden age.

Yup. Definitely. But it still has its reach. I like going for bike rides and listening to audio books. Good luck doing that without being tracked all over. I mean you can, but so much less convenient.

Cool. Now please tell me how to fix this:

I need a job. I desperately need a job. I have very little time left until I’ll have to leave the country I called home for 5 years because I can’t get a job.

Suddenly all job sites start talking about “suspicious behavior on my account” and block it. But no worries, all I have to do is send them a picture of my passport, videos of my face and my first born, and I’m in business baby!

So what the fuck a.m I supposed to do?

I mean, of course you are completely right, and I too love thrifting and hard sales and and… I still need a job

How the fuck is any of this legal? Why do our politicians sell themselves to the highest bidder to allow these creeps to take everything from us?

No worries. Just send a photo of your passport, a bank statement proving your residence, and your telephone number that is connected to your personal identity by law (which it is in almost every country now).

We are not fighting hard enough.

I highly doubt they’ll even ask, why follow the law when it’s in your pocket? They’ll just highjack your camera and microphone whenever they want

Don’t worry, billions won’t mind, and if you don’t follow suit then no internet for you.

They know exactly what they are doing.

They don’t need your consent as an individual, they’re on a take it or leave it basis because they know the vast majority is too uninformed or unprincipled to care.

And then you’ll be in the minute fraction that can’t access shit and basically cut off from being online.
