    A reminder that police have discretion for enforcement. They can choose not to arrest you for something obviously ridiculous, like going 5 seconds over time, regardless of what the city council says.

    Even just checking for clarification first, “You really want me to arrest him for going 5 seconds over time? Seriously?”. Pointing out how ridiculous that request is publicly at the time would probably have been enough to defuse the situation.

    Instead they’re almost surely going to be dealing with a first amendment lawsuit, as they should. The payment of which should come from their salaries even though we know it won’t.
