I have had at least one game where the disk was just a Steam download key, so technically a physical disk (for your collection!) but also all the disadvantages of digital distribution.
It isn’t the disc that’s important, it’s the ownership - the ability to make use of your investment without depending on the manufacturer after the sale.
It feels like almost nothing works without Internet connection anymore…
