A string of high-profile US Democrats have withdrawn their support from Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner after a former girlfriend accused the politician of sexual assault.
In an exclusive interview with media outlet Politico published on Monday, Jenny Racicot alleged that Platner forced her to have nonconsensual sex in late 2021. She alleged that Platner had entered her Maine home uninvited while intoxicated and forced himself on her, despite her repeatedly telling him to stop
I’m also conflicted and still a little bit skeptical because of the DNCs history of political hit jobs on candidates that don’t toe the party line. Janet Mills kick started that pretty and broadly aggressively when Platner challenged her in the primary. And the DNC also kneecapped Al Franken over some (ultimately essentially bullshit) allegations, and he was one of the most incisive, effective, intelligent, and responsive-to-constituents senators in recent memory.
So, yeah, this situation is fucked; but I’d be shocked if some DNC establishment characters aren’t playing fucky-fuck games in the background, because those guys absolutely fucking hate progressives - demonstrably more than they hate fascists, even (which is a big part of the reason that I’ve largely lost all faith in the Democratic Party as an organization).
