Finished Star Fox! Completed all the planets, including all the alternate routes (except one in Sector X, where you have to kill the boss in certain time). Didn’t get any medals though, came very close to getting them couple of times, so will try for them a few times more, but don’t care about them too much.
I like how there are dialogue changes (even if minor) depending on if all characters are with you or if any character is missing due to damaged Arwing. Also, didn’t realise how much game you are missing out on if you just play one route.
Loved the game, finally understanding why people care so much about the series. Hoping for a new entry in the series now!
As I mentioned last week, Earth Defense Force 5 was nearing the end, so spent most of the weekend to finish the game, but turned out there was more left than I expected, so spent half the week playing it too. It had total of 110 levels, and couple of them were very long. Also had to switch to those annoying hold-to-charge, release-to-shoot weapons to beat last 2 levels, so ended up getting used to them, it turns out they aren’t all that bad.
Finished the game now!
Started Star Ocean: First Departure R. After finishing Voice of Cards last week, wasn’t playing anything on Switch, so started Star Ocean.
This is my first Star Ocean game and I am surprised to see how good it is. The combat system felt a bit weird in the start (it’s real time but there is no dodge or block) and took getting used to, but I think I have gotten the hang of it. The world building is also interesting, gives some of that Star Trek feel. After the initial exposition doesn’t look like there would be any major twist in the story, seems to be pretty straight forward, but will have to just wait and see.
No Red Dead Redemption 2 this week. I am not going to start another PS game now and focus on this from here on.
Same with Monster Hunter Stories, it was on back burner due to Star Fox, but even though I have finished that now, Splatoon Raiders is releasing soon so I probably won’t be getting back to this any time soon.
What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

Felt the same way about Second Story R, but I think the game fell apart in its second half. I’m curious to see if First Departure has similar problems.
Started .hack// G.U. Last Recode. It’s a collection of three old PS2 RPGs along with a short 4th game made for this collection. They all share a single story and most stuff carries over between them.
It may be the first MMORPG story, at least it’s the first one I know about. You even log out periodically and check mails, forums or news on your desktop before logging back in. With the MMORPG jargon and the use of emoticons, its super nostalgic to me - I used to play a lot of them when I was younger.
The actual battles feel quite simple, but the story is fun. Just be prepared to read a lot. Watching the recap of the first .hack// series (which never left the PS2), reading everything available at the start - including a wiki with lore about the MMORPG - took about 3-4hours with almost no actual gameplay.
Finished God Eater 3. Overall I recommend the game, but I haven’t done any of the post game story yet. The small pool of enemies got quite tedious towards the end so we’re taking a break. We’ll finish it before MH:Wilds arrives on Switch!
Started the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy. Currently only on the second episode. Thus far, I really like the characters, the game is unexpectedly funny at times. Depending on my partners feedback, I plan on doing the entire series eventually.
I have this game on wishlist for over a decade, how does it play? Not too dated, I hope. You are piquing my interest, and a quick look shows it doesn’t look too bad.
Star Ocean is old school. It has been a while since I had to make sure my characters are topped up with the healing items of all kinds, or they will just die in the dungeon. My usual play style is to not spend any money on curative items, just hoard whatever I loot and then finish the game without using most of them. That doesn’t work here. Have to make proper use of everything in the dungeon, which is not to say game is difficult, because it isn’t, I have just forgotten how older games used to be. Which is just to say, I might not be a great judge of how the game is.
Phoenix Wright is great, I have only played the first trilogy yet and I am already a fan. Plan to start the next trilogy soon.
Quite dated, to be honest. You’ll mostly be using basic attacks - either charged or as a combo - and blocking. There are skills, but there’s a cooldown attached to using skills, and you don’t get many of them. They are mostly used to cancel enemy skills by using them while they cast their own. Later on you get different weapon types, but I’m not there yet. And there’s an ultimate skill you get to use every so often.
However, often it doesn’t matter. The game has a strong level scaling, as in you’ll one shot everything 5 levels below you. This, along with the EXP bonus in this remaster made most encounters a breeze. You can generate areas above your level for a challenge, but this will only further overlevel you.
That being said, while it did bother me in the beginning, I still came around to liking it. Maybe it will expand more with future unlocks.
