I’m down for an entire new crew. I’m super curious what they mean by “further in the timeline”, though. Further than Voyager or Discovery/Academy?

We kinda see post Voyager in the TNG films, since we see Admiral Janeway. We also get a 20 year jump in the Picard series. So you could be set in that gap, or after Picard.

I think Discovery/Academy era is the most interesting. You get to tell a “start of the Federation” type story, which we haven’t seen yet. We’ve seen similar with Enterprise giving us the forming of the Federation, so this would be what’s next. Plus you can pull in all the legacy aliens whenever you want.

it’s a story Star Trek Enterprise should have gotten to tell in full

So that’s a can of worms I completely agree with, but I suspect even if it hadn’t been cancelled it still would have avoided.

I think we would have gotten more details, but I don’t think Enterprise was ever ready to declare the Federation starting, and then really go forward.

I give Discovery a lot of props for taking the series in a wild new direction.

I guess technically the Federation doesn’t really reinvent the galaxy overnight, but even such a tentpole moment is a season finale and then some.
