JFC… Sorry the billionaires decided we’re not going to address climate change so they can get more rich. They’ll have proper air conditioning too, you’ll have to get used to it. Have you tried having a sauna?

No, just something interesting to try of you think you can handle it and have access to a sauna.

But yes, what else can be done on a global level when temperature is rising. It’s already happening so it’s good to explore how we deal with it.

Find shade, cover your windows on the outside with reflective material, make sure there’s proper airflow through the home, hydrate, avoid strenuous activity, etc. Nobody will do this for you unless you ask (so still on you).

Great, I’ll just check with the HOA where I rent so they could tell me to fuck off on reflectice windows, mini splits and even 1 solar AC unit because I can’t afford a car dependent home in my area with jobs outside of this USian BS.

I mean, do whatever you can. If you got a friend you can crash at, do that. If HOA says no to your shit that you need to survive, do it anyway and maybe take them to court? I dunno. Anything if it’s a matter of survival! Stay safe out there! The world is changing as we live and breathe.

The great thing about sauna is not the heat, but the jumping in ice cold water afterwards.

I do it everyday. Take a book, just close your eyes, play a podcast. Time goes pretty quick. Once you feel uncomfortable, get out and jump in the pool. It’s great

I never really checked how this is possible when they were teaching me to wet my neck before jumping in the sea… And I will not check it now neither, I’m on a break, from… doing nothing

Yes, Finland was a bit of a shock!

Going for a naked swim in lake after the sauna was nice though.

Heat acclimatization, yeah. You can make use of it to improve your overall performance in endurance sports too, on account of the increase in blood volume that comes from being exposed to uncomfortable levels of heat.

It takes several weeks and you have to do it semi continually to maintain heat acclimatization. So that doesn’t really work for places that don’t normally get hot.

While I don’t want to presume that science that feels intuitive is bad science, I’m not entirely sure how newsworthy it is to talk about how getting used to heat helps one deal with heat. People did live in hot places before AC.

It starts to feel like instructions and socialization rather than simple science journalism…

probably it helps acclimate the body of people for hot humid weather. at first i had low tolerance for walk in freezers at work -20c, as more time goes on consistently going into a freezer, i dint have the wierd breathing thing going on, which my allergies make it more susceptible.

Can confirm, playing badminton for hours at a time during summer in poorly ventilated halls really does build your heat tolerance 😅

Pro tip, being a large bottle of water laced with electrolytes.
