You want to know why people feel unsafe with a religious zealot on board an airplane? It’s because in 2001 religious zealots hijacked three planes and murdered thousands of people and terrorize the entire nation.

Four planes. Two hit the twin towers, one hit the pentagon, and another crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, presumably on the way to the Whitehouse.

The audio transcript of a call one of the passengers on flight 93 made is both chilling, and a testament of their courage in the face of almost certain death.

Beware not to conflate the thousand, likely million, different religions and belief systems that existed and exist worldwide for Abrahamic religions.

Have you ever saw some Umbanda’s Mãe de Santo yelling Laroyê Exu out loud?
Maybe some Thelemite trying to make people to read Liber Al Vel Legis, or some Hermetist trying to shove The Kybalion onto people’s throats?
Me neither.
Similar thing goes with my Lilith-centered belief. My religious practices are mostly between me and Her, and whenever I do something public (devotional art, carving of sigils/seals, etc), it’s never directed at “converting others”.
So, again, beware not to conflate “religion” with the Abrahamic ones. Or you risk becoming the very kind of “religious zealot” you swore to be against.

Every acceptance of superstition lays the groundwork for a belief in the supernatural. Every Homeopathy-Karen, every Wicca-Hippie, while peaceful and harmless in and of themselves provides the fertile ground on which a bigger misconception of reality can grow.
Should you be able to have your own beliefs and worship as you please as long as you don’t intrude on the rights of others?
Absolutely
But should society consider every expression of unfounded belief a failure of education in critical thinking? Yes.
Supernatural thinking and superstition are fundamentally at odds with a congruent model of reality, they are infectious memes and can fester into extremism if left unchecked. Not necessarily in the individual but absolutely on a societal scale.
The Wiccan priestess, the Luciferian practitioner, the Thelemite are not the Hijackers but they absolutely are the grains of sand that in their totality create the wandering dunes that ever so slowly swallow civilizations. Do we say “fuck that grain of sand in particular”? No, but nonetheless we fight the dunes.
Do not confuse spiritual belief with religion. Religion by its very definition is fanaticism.
