He’s playing the game and knows that union support is in a rare moment right now where he can play both sides. Neither party will risk anti-union rhetoric, which hasn’t been the case for literally half a century.
I think it’s a very cynical play that sacrifices the long term for the short term, but it definitely makes sense when you tease it out.
You’re probably right although speaking at the RNC made it seem like he was leaning towards the GOP. It also caused at least 1 active teamster to think the right was pro union so I had to share the clip.

How does it sacrifice long term goals? He should be pressuring legacy democrats the same as Republicans. With this move he forced the Republican party to appear more union friendly and at the same time put a fire under the asses of democrats to keep passing pro-union policy wherever they can.
