I learned something new! So thank you. I didn’t know any of this. And every once in a while i’ll watch a DT video, and i dont think they are bad. And i dont hate DT :)
I know plenty of Windows admins who still dont use Powershell as much as they could/should. Which i think is odd, since Powershell is so much better, but i suppose its not easy to change old ways :)
I’m a member of several Windows forums… there’s just as much complaining there :-)
Exactly! :)
I manage macOS, Linux AND Windows. In the end, they’re all the same. Its software that needs management.
Thankfully i don’t consider myself a Linux admin. So i take no offense.
I suppose thats the difference between Windows admins and Linux admins. Windows admins are used to click their way though things with fancy gui’s and wizards :)
I’ve been using Proxmox professionally for years now, and not once did i have s problem i could not fix myself. But i’m used to solve problems myself by “digging in deep”. Ofcourse it helps that i’ve been using Linux (mostly Debian) since 1996. There are plenty of guides around to teach how Debian works. Windows admin’s who make the switch just need to take the time to read them, watch the video’s, do the research.
The only skills we where born with are the basic survival skills. Everything else is learned along the way. So was using Windows, and so is using Linux.
But thats just my opinion :)
Ohhh i loved that little bugger!!
Only to login and see rhat they actually didn’t restart. They just said so because they think you wont find out 😂
Thats because a lot of users dont really want to use Windows, or the computer in general. They use it, because they have to.
For the same reason, i would never know what to do when my car breaks down. Sure i can look under the hood and do this and that. But its not my area of expertise, and its not something im interested in.
I’m a sysadmin, i know almost everything about powershell and then some. That doesnt mean my users do though. For them, a computer is a magical black box thats supposed to “just work” by clicking here and there. Just like a car is to me :)
Yes, you can. But a lot of Windows users dont even know what powershell is.
And personally i think you shouldnt have to jump through hoops for what i consider basic functionality. They also make it near impossible to install Windows 11 new without having to resort to all kind of tricks to create a local account. Its a shitshow.
In my humble opinion :)
I run KVM on Alpine Linux, then on my debian based workstation i have Virtmanager jnstalled. I can use it to connect to the Alpine KVM and easily add/edit/delete VM’s and manage them.
Ahh, never knew that!
I thought Windows wouldn’t let you save it to the same drive? Its been a while, granted. But i had to plug in a USB or print it out.
My favorite Server OS is Alpine Linux. Because its small, easy to use.
Ofcourse its not using the standard GLIBC system, but these days you can run almost anything in docker so thats less of a problem.

The problem is, knowing Microsft, its gonna be turned on by default. And half the people who use Windows barely know how to turn the computer on and off. Let alone dive deep into some half baked settings app to figure out where to turn it off.
knock knock knock in the middle of the nicht because i forgot to turn off my speakers, and the whole household would wake up 😂
Oh wauw! I think ICQ 98b was the best version ever! Then everyone switched to MSN, and down hill went the internet (for me anyway)
But now that the cat’s out of the bag…
Proxmox earns most of its money by giving proffessional support.
If this is your concern, then you can buy support directly from Proxmox, just like you could from VMWare. So if i ever where to leave the company, and there’s noone with my skillset (which i think is terrible management, having your company depend on the skills of one person). My boss can sleep just as calmly as before, knowing we pay Proxmox for support.
