This is why I like working at places where I don’t dread helping my clients lol
and where I don’t have email
you work from 9 in the morning to 5 at night? damn, american working hours are harsh
Uhhhhh you don’t? 8 hours are normal pretty much everywhere. Maybe I misunderstood you
Get in a union and fix your work life balance
I’m part of a union and I work 36 hours a week (and would like to go 32 once I have a bit more financial headroom). But 8 hours a day is pretty typical right? I don’t know anyone who works less than that. I use the hours I don’t have to work relative to a normal 40 hour workweek to take days off, not work less per day. On a 6 hour workday I’d probably be as productive as an 8 hour one, but that’s my employer’s problem and not mine.
Depends how many days a week that you work. 8 hr days x 5 days is 40 hours. So if you’re working 36 hours a week, and 5 days, then you’re already working less than 8 hour days.
Though I’d guess you’re likely 9x4. My place of work, for people who do 5 day weeks, its 7hr days (including 30 min paid lunch and two 15 min paid breaks).
No I work 8 hour days, I just have every 2nd Friday off. Though those 8 hour days do include random coffee breaks etc, as is probably normal in office spaces. Not lunch tho, so I tend to work from 8:30 - 17:30 with 1 hour lunch break.
nah, it’s 9 9 6 or some new shit they came up with
“6 por 1”
What are you talking about? Those a normal hours for a lot of businesses everywhere
thats a 20 hour work shift wdym?..
No America bleerrggg
8-ish hours is normal in Norway to. Allthough 8 - 15:30. With 30 min for lunch. 37,5 hours is a normal week for me.
People work until 17 on Fridays?
we have an all hands at 4pm on Friday to “celebrate wins and collaboration”.
Yes I remember how late on a Friday afternoon is appearently the absolute best time for such a celebration. They always put them there for me too.
Its just a coincedence that it happens to be scheduled when people are tired and want to leave early for the weekend, of course. /s
Nope, we just claim to.
True, but you’re still physically stuck somewhere or chained to a computer.
Fridays should always be read only.
The peace button, care of the ‘Island’ app.
Eh, I have a completely separate login on my phone for work crap.
That’s if you happen to have work apps on your private phone to begin with.
We can have private apps on our work phone
why would you do that?
I don’t do it btw but we install apps differently if they are for work or not. We can switch on and off work apps so we are not necessarily accessible when we use the phone
it’s not that it’s that they can make arguments to access your data
True, I don’t know if they do. I only use it as a hotspot and then use my private phone
Why not? My company pays for my work phone and the mobile plan. Why should I buy, carry around and pay the plan for a second phone?
My company is reasonable when it comes to contacting me, though. When I’m not at work they won’t contact me. If that wasn’t the case, I could see the need for separate devices.
because they have a legal argument for your data
WDYM? My employer doesn’t have any right to access my private data, no matter what device I use. Nor do they have the ability (as there’s no MDM active on
mytheir device). I live in a country where employees actually have rights. That includes the right to privacy from the employer.
Huh, I’ve had work profile enabled for ~1.5 years and have never noticed this notification toggle. Thanks!
Either I don’t have that in my phone or I’m stupid and can’t find it. Probably the latter. Whatever the case is, I need this
Not all Android phones support it. I used “Island” to enable it on mine: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.island&hl=en_AU
I keep the work WhatsApp, Email and Facebook Messenger in it.
For reals, though
Work culture in around the world is fucked. We all know we’re essentially pushing a rock from one side of the room to the other, all so some guy can have multiple homes and a private sexual abuse island. That Guys best friend also gets to be president, while I have to make a schedule to show my bosses work is being done… Like what? Can’t I just do the work and you verify with your own two eyes? No, if it’s not on the schedule that some middle manager only sees but never verifies if it got done, it’s the same as not doing it.
Yup. At my job it’s fairly common for annoying “urgent” requests to come in late afternoon on Fridays. Often from some of the upper management folks who do very little work. They finally realize “whoops, the weekend is almost here!” They suddenly want to check a box somewhere to make it look like they actually did something this week. And, of course, the requests are always a hand-off to someone in my department to do the actual work (which the requestor will take full credit for after we close the ticket).
Interviews are two way. Prioritise finding a good boss, it really helps when it turns out the wider work environment is shit
Looks like a phishing email!
Future me’s problem. Yes.
