To be fair, Mozilla has done quite some stupid shit in the last decade or so. Remember when they killed all addons with version 57?

I like it because in some places it’s a common euphemism for fart that’s only used unironically by young children, so every time I hear it the twelve-year-old in me gets another cameo.

Because tweet never had any negative connotations before Twitter took it on. It’s the sound a bird makes. Toot is slang for farting which doesn’t have the greatest associations. It’s also like skeet for blue sky. I get why the owners wouldn’t want a word that has a whole and common on their platform community that knows that word as slang for ejaculation.

I’m four years old and I think it’s funny. Also, “skeet” as slang for “blue sky”? I love it, you’re a visionary, how do we make this happen?

For a slightly less dramatic description: the person who’s been in charge of Firefox is now the CEO of Mozilla. In an interview they detailed their vision which includes trying to get money in more ways than just making Google the default search engine, all of which involve growing the user base. He said that ignoring changes in technology doesn’t benefit users or the Internet, and alluded to some previously announced features that are in progress for Firefox, including on device AI tools for things like alttext generation and translation, and upcoming features like an AI browsing window which has more integration with an AI including ones that aren’t on the device depending on what the user selects.
He reiterated that user control of data and privacy remains their biggest selling point, so that has to remain the focus of whatever path they take.

Hum… The announcement was that it’s not going to hit itself in the dick with that hammer.

Yes, it’s a weird announcement. No, it doesn’t mean it’s hitting itself.

Just in case you didn’t realize, the announcement was that they are not pushing it into anybody.

        Again, weird announcement.

          I mean:

Firefox will grow from a browser into a broader ecosystem of trusted software. Firefox will remain our anchor. It will evolve into a modern AI browser and support a portfolio of new and trusted software additions.

          that’s from their blog

I’m pretty sure that language implies they are willing to push it into everybody.

If you keep reading it, you’ll get into where they say they won’t push it into anybody… that is almost the entire document.

A company turning off its user base because it’s shoving unwanted AI into it’s product is a lot like a self dick hammering.
