Based on information available as of this moment (Saturday, January 10, 2026), the United States has witnessed approximately 1,000 demonstrations in response to the killing of Renee Nicole Goode.
- Scale and Locations of Demonstrations.
The U.S. is witnessing a massive wave of coordinated protests under the banner “ICE Out for Good” (a play on her surname and a demand to oust the immigration agency). Reports indicate hundreds of demonstrations (with some sources estimating over 1,000 events) nationwide throughout this weekend.
Key cities that have seen or are seeing protests:
- Minneapolis, MN (Epicenter): The largest and most sustained protests, specifically at Powderhorn Park and in front of federal buildings.
- Philadelphia, PA: Marches toward federal detention centers.
- Indianapolis, IN: Hundreds gathered at Monument Circle.
- Austin and Pflugerville, TX.
- Portland, OR: Witnessed violent protests and another shooting related to the protests.
- Fayetteville and Durham, NC.
- Santa Barbara, CA.
- Atlanta, GA.
- Champaign, IL.
- Plus events in: Florida, Ohio, Kansas, New Mexico, and Michigan.
- Calls to Protest Today or Tomorrow.
Today (Saturday, January 10, 2026): This is considered the main National Day of Action. Organizations like “Indivisible” and immigrant rights coalitions called for mobilization in all 50 states. Demonstrations are taking place right now (at the time of writing) in main squares and outside federal buildings.
Tomorrow (Sunday, January 11, 2026): Protests and vigils are expected to continue in many cities, particularly in Minneapolis and Portland, due to the significant momentum and rapid developments, even though Saturday was the scheduled central mobilization day.
- Quick Background (Context).
The Incident: Renee Nicole Goode (37, poet and mother) was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) fire on Wednesday, January 7, in Minneapolis while inside her vehicle.
Reason for Outrage: There is a stark conflict in narratives; the Trump administration labeled her a “domestic terrorist” who attempted to run over agents, while her family and circulating videos insist she was trying to drive away and the shooting was aggressive and unjustified. Additionally, the victim was a U.S. citizen and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, which broadened the scope of solidarity with her.

unless people strap up and start blasting ICE agents and their coordinators i’m just going to assume this is going to be about as impactful as every other protest for the last 26 years
Look man, it’s a dialectic this thing. It just needs more accumulation of bad things (quantitative) before something of significance truly happens with america’s working class (qualitative)
I’m on the bench of what will do the empire in (and truly mobilize the working class) is economical meltdown, and something worse than 2008 sub prime crisis.
What do you think?
i think Americans are treat addled hogs and no force of man or even god could rouse them from their indolence and that hoping for a better future is an exercise in futility as the majority of these stupid fuckers would rather March their neighbors and then themselves into a gas chamber before questioning capitalism or their ideology (that would be GETTING POLITICAL, GHASTLY)
So you can see that anger of protests is not in itself a coherent political ideology with concrete demands, but you can’t see that raging at the people doing it in a fatalistic way that treats conditions and mindsets as static and inflexible is also not a coherent political ideology?
At least those protesters are trying, you on the other hand are only spreading fatalism.
cool story tell me more about the success of protest in the absence of the threat of armed violence, ohhh wait you can’t because the entire history of such protest (globally, throughout all of human existence btw) is getting a fat fuck all nothing done, but woah look out Im the asshole for stating facts! eat me
If I had a penny for every “at LEAST THEY’RE DOING SOMETHING” i get from you nerds id have at least a few bucks by now, which would still offer more utility than the entire combined history of all these fucking protests
You don’t get to wich a revolution in to existence. You have to move people’s consciousness by making them experience the nature of capitalism.
You can argue all day with people, and it wouldn’t change their opinon in the slightest. However, your average liberal going to a protest which is being teargassed by the police, his conschiousness will make leaps forward.
Cool how that’s been happening for every year since tear gas was invented and yet the american liberal is more CIVIL than ever
And when communists look at these protests and dismiss them outright, they ignore any of the material realities of these events. The reality is, people like the PSL are within these protests. Liberal protest does not build class consciousness on its own, spontaneous action does not spontaneously build a revolutionary movement, or become a revolutionary moment. This is exactly why you need a party actively engaging in these moments, even leading these moments, which in a lot of locations they are. PSL is involved in organizing some of these protests. This is done with the goal of educating the masses.
The reality is, the imperial core is the most resilient stronghold of capitalist ideology. Every revolution that has ever taken place and succeeded has been where the chains of imperialism were weakest. There is no blueprint, no existing and proven strategy, for building a revolutionary movement and succeeding within that stronghold. This stronghold has hundreds of years of playbooks, tactics, and strategies for crushing rising left wing movements. Absolutely demonic forms of physical and psychological torture at both personal and mass scale, built on the decades of imperialist aggression. Entire categories of Marxist thinking, founded by the intelligence communities, for the sole sake of castrating the revolutionary aspects of Marxism and folding into the “compatible left”.
Does it ever make you wonder why the gun culture exists as it does in America? It has deep roots in post civil war America and a drop in demand for guns. To make up for this dramatic drop in demand, new demand needed to be created within the civilian market. Most of this advertising was around hunting, but also included “riot guns”. Jumping on the post-war atmosphere to monetize racism and fears of radicalism, “riot guns” were marketed to business owners as a way to protect the “industrial life of the nation”. You can read more about that here: https://socialistworker.org/2018/03/01/the-political-economy-of-gun-culture
The reality is, after the Civil War, the reactionaries and business elites began arming members of their class, and those who shared their class interests. This is what attaches the conservative movement squarely with gun ownership, and why liberal and progressives then associate guns with all the characteristics of the conservative movement. This is why the progressives never armed themselves, and why they shriek about being peaceful.
I could go on, but the conditions required for things to change, are large, and one of them is breaking liberals of the idea that guns are evil, and not simply a tool for demanding and maintaining political agency.
I think another is about the nature of legality and the constitution that I alluded to here: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/10312486/7571460
It is a subject to be cautious about in how we discuss it, but it is nevertheless important. If people view morality/ethical action as something the constitution is capable of doing a fine job at as long it’s actualized in its written principles, where will they have the impetus to challenge the colonial roots of it and, by extension, colonialism as a whole? For example, if they see Trump only as someone who is breaking from the constitution rather than seeing him as someone who is behaving much like the genocidal “founding fathers” did: using legality mixed with narrative as a means of enacting their exploitative goals, not as a means of liberation.
"Liberalism manifests itself in various ways.
(…)
To indulge in irresponsible criticism in private instead of actively putting forward one’s suggestions to the organization. (…) To show no regard at all for the principles of collective life but to follow one’s own inclination. This is a second type [of liberalism].
(…)
To indulge in personal attacks, pick quarrels, vent personal spite or seek revenge instead of entering into an argument and struggling against incorrect views for the sake of unity or progress or getting the work done properly. This is a fifth type.
(…)
To be among the masses and fail to conduct propaganda and agitation or speak at meetings or conduct investigations and inquiries among them, and instead to be indifferent to them and show no concern for their well-being, forgetting that one is a Communist and behaving as if one were an ordinary non-Communist. This is a seventh type.
(…)
To regard oneself as having rendered great service to the revolution, to pride oneself on being a veteran, to disdain minor assignments while being quite unequal to major tasks, to be slipshod in work and slack in study. This is a tenth type." - Mao
In all seriousness, you’re more of a liberal than the people organising these protests.
You have advanced political consciouness, but if you refuse to use that to organise the people around you, it might as well not exist.
Blah blah blah aren’t you wasting time talking when you could be milling around with a sign
