Economic abuse is why affordable housing is a human rights issue.
While housing is undeniably getting less affordable, it’s still something you can influence a lot through individual choices. My sister and I live in the same city. Her house cost 300k€ and mine cost 100k€. Both are located in similar neighbourhoods too - my house is just a lot smaller and older.
100%. Being poor can be (& typically is) traumatic. People under that much stress and trauma are more susceptible to abuse and manipulation.
If the choice is living on the street with your kids or living with your economically abusive boyfriend, most mothers will choose the safety of a roof over their children’s heads.
And to be clear, it’s not a gender thing or a heterosexual thing specifically, my example is just the most common one that I’ve seen personally in my life. At every shitty, cheap apartments I’ve ever lived in, there was always at least one couple matching this description, where a mother and her children were chained economically to some man not because she really loved him but because she needed his part of the income to take care of her children properly. Hell, it’s also the type of home I grew up in. However, I am sure there are plenty of men and LGBTQ+ people who end up being abused economically as well.
I would like to point out that there are deadbeat moms as well. It’s not exclusively a dad thing, its more a “deadbeat parent” thing. Unfortunately, which is absolutely crazy.
If anyone can’t handle kids, just don’t have kids, please.
Corrected the post.
Okay but what if i really want to? Youre just being human ectinctionist and actially straightphobic.
I get this is supposed to be satire, but do what you want. I don’t control you. But you are responsible for what you choose to do (or not do). Childcare is a big responsibility, and if you can’t handle it, at the very least be responsible enough to realize that and not subject potential children to mistreatment.
Its pretty easy to not have kids. It does take self-control, though.
No im sorry, nuance is impossible and considering children as people rather than property is human extinctionist and straightphobic. Why are you so mean?why do you hate me?
1 day old account with 100 comments being obnoxious. I see what’s going on in here.
What, pray tell, would not be obnoxious?
It’s also a very common way abusers trap their victims.
Yep. Had a friend on the bus come over for dinner because her mom and mom’s bf had a fight. The bf was withholding money for groceries so she couldn’t feed her kids, so she would give in to whatever it was she wouldn’t do. We were 12 and she had a younger brother who was 9. The 9 year old was the bf’s kid, my friend wasn’t.
Me growing up: “Can I get an allowance?”
Parents: “When you get a job.”
30 years later
Me to my kids: “Do you want an allowance?”
Kids: “We actually need a weekly basic income on top of allowance. It’s called socialism, get used to it.”
Now listen up! Back in my day, we didn’t have fancy allowance money! We had siblings. Two siblings and a single income for the entire family! And we had to share the single income! You should consider yourself very lucky children!
You can’t control someone financially. Has Trump taught us nothing? Affordability is a lunatic liberal Democrat hoax people?! Trad wives rejoice.
