Something I notice comparing pictures, how the makeup is less notable in newest entries of Star Trek.

I have the feeling Deep Space Nine was the peak of makeup effects, like nowdays is a lost art.

    Not so sure about that. Actually tv in the '90s was not that bad. In terms of resolution it looked similar to 480p video, but without any artifacts. Furthermore due to the nature of how a CRT works, those tvs actually had less motion blur than flat screens.

      TNG and DS9 (and early Voyager) episodes were mastered to Beta tapes which had a best case functional resolution of 280p. This is why the TNG Blu-ray’s took so much effort and why they haven’t done Blu-ray’s of DS9 or Voyager, there aren’t film masters to scan they have to be recreated from the original negatives.
