Claremore man arrested for exceeding a 3-minute public comment limit at a city council meeting over a 300-acre data center proposal — and it’s all on bodycam.
Of course it’s Oklahoma. Of course. Ugh, this place is such garbage.
Kill the checks notes city council?
This kind of shit isn’t helping tech bros
The willing collaboration of state and corporate power to crush even polite dissent?
Can’t imagine why they’d think it would.
A reminder that police have discretion for enforcement. They can choose not to arrest you for something obviously ridiculous, like going 5 seconds over time, regardless of what the city council says.
Even just checking for clarification first, “You really want me to arrest him for going 5 seconds over time? Seriously?”. Pointing out how ridiculous that request is publicly at the time would probably have been enough to defuse the situation.
Instead they’re almost surely going to be dealing with a first amendment lawsuit, as they should. The payment of which should come from their salaries even though we know it won’t.
