Pre-planned. Sony doesn’t make this sort of decision on a whim. They announced a staged exit of optical media in 2024, and closed their BR recorder lines in February.
Next year, Sony will exit home entertainment, handing its TV and media player business to TCL. This would have left Sony Interactive as the last subsidiary still pursuing optical hardware.
PlayStation has announced that they will stop producing physical releases, soon, and I believe they’ve said the PS6 will have no disc drive at all.
No idea how Rockstar fits in.
The announcement came shortly after Rockstar announced they won’t be making physical copies. It was either pre-planned, or rockstar inspired Sony.

Sony DADC in Germany is the last Sony manufacturer, and it’s being transitioned towards lens manufacturing.
Soo, how many of them are still around?
I thought it was just 2 or 3 still active.
They literally just sent you the list. I count at least 27.
Lot’s of defunct, sold to <market leader> with 3 steps, citation needed, or with sometimes a footnote (if at all) to a website that looks 2000s. Also,
I think it’s: Rockstar has confirmed there is no planned physical copy of gta6.
my bet is that this is referencing the tens of Rockstar workers who were fired when about to unionise. happened a few months ago
No they’re referencing rock star announcing gta6 as digital only with no physical release.
Hahaha no, that would require solidarity.
This is for purely selfish reasons.
Thank you
