So my username on reddit was u/IAmUser1234567 I had 17k+ Karma, i didn’t do anything they just banned my account. Now i guess they have created a digital fingerprint or marked my ip address, because if i create a new account it gets banned almost instantly.

I am loving lemmy(using Voyager on my android phone) so much. Reddit anyways now just contains shity cringe content, it is becoming like insta, I am happy to join lemmy family :)

Probably some sort of AI-driven auto moderation to cut costs at the expense of their users. Sorry that happened to you but glad you found your way here. I was one of seemingly few uses who actually left permanently after they killed the API after ~10 years of daily use. It’s only gotten much much worse since then while Lemmy and Piefed keep getting better.

Check out Blorp and Voyager on mobile, and Photon on PC.

You and me both! I left and never went back and it’s been one of the best decisions I ever made.

You don’t replace them. You just deal with the lack of them. As well as the lack of super interesting content and niche contributors (i.e.: “Geologist here!” and so on).

I’d like to think that one day the Fediverse attains that level of adoption but it seems the only “free” protocols that attain that is podcasts. But that was created like 20 years ago and a large portion of so-called podcasts (that are more like just video roundtables or interviews) aren’t even distributed at all anymore. So as a society we are moving in the opposite direction.

Yeah dude. We live in a world where very few people care at all about personal freedoms or getting fucked. That’s just the way it is.

              Yeah fam u.u i feel ya…

Hard times–and it’s not even just reddit.

The things we once took for granted are now associated with new hardship because profit for Party A requires suffering for Party B.

Every new loss I encounter, I no longer have the energy to get upset. I just resign myself. “Oh well. That figures. Just gotta accept it and adjust.”

It’s weird how I’m less emotionally volatile and vulnerable than I had ever been in prior stages of my life despite the world having become distinctly worse since then. But … getting upset takes energy; i have no energy to spare.

Same, 11+ years. 🫡 The more time goes on the prouder I am of leaving as soon as I did. Seems like it very quickly turned into a much worse place.

I also left after the api drama after 9 years and many thousands of comments.

I’m happy with my move to lemmy. There are some rough areas in the tech and definitely some personalities to watch out. But I think the experience is good

          Nice! 🤝

Yeah, I’m happy to work with/around the kinks and bug report when I can if I run into weirdness.

And yeah, some weirdos are inevitably on here as well, I’ve already had the displeasure of running into several of them. I tag them and make sure I don’t interact after that.

it was downhill when they allow propaganda bots to flood the site from '18, one of the first purges of the time was around that time.

and only the admins can unban people, since there are so few of them, they likely ignore most appeals. also they automatic ignore any subsequent accounts than the one you original got banned on too,.

I was on Reddit for a couple of years before creating an account, but I couldn’t stand seeing another “one of us” crowd surf the whole thing to enshitification during the API thing so I’ve stopped going there.

Not sure what you mean to imply here? I’m met with a page that says the user deleted their account. Couldn’t that have happened after they got banned?

it used to, but now since its mostly AI driven bans, or shadowban. for sitewide ban they just give a generic Ai generated response, usually goes like this : “your account was banned for these violations(s). see the tos”, it doesnt tell the reason for the ban anymore, thats when you know its AI generated. shadowban wont tell you are banned, you only find out once you stop getting responses from people(like you been commenting for a few days but nobody responds") , they have been using that so liberally because it doesnt tip of potential spammers, and users, plus it obfuscate thier reasons for banning you.

reddit keeps tabs on all accounts they banned, even if they are deleted, its just in case you try to create new ones, they refer to the old ones. Also i noticed some deleted accounts doesnt erase all your comments too.

I mean, you can say that all you want, but I cannot log into mine. I’m not talking one sub ban, or a temp one , but an admin level site wide permaban. And all related accounts also shut down.

You still have full access to your account information. You just can’t participate in anything. Reddit has a fingerprint on me so any new account I make is banned with a few hours (until I get a new pc which I’m hoping to soon, and even then I might never go back). Once I figured I was fingerprinted I just made a random bullshit account with a fake email that got banned pretty quick that I use for a few subreddits on my pc that I’m actually subscribed to.

So when I go onto my pc, I’m logged into a rando account I made just so I could sub to some of my sports subs, local news subs, and a few novelty subs I enjoyed over the years to keep up with news. All my main accounts I had over the years are all deleted.

they fingerprint your browser(what kind of browser, the version, if you have it minimized or not, etc) other things they look for is components of some of your device, time and date. they eventually will sniff out vpns/PROXIES if doesnt have it in thier database already. other specific things like, are using a google email(they seem to trust those more) or those temp emails. allegedly brave hid your fingerprinting, thats why some reported they dint get banned for a while.
