So my username on reddit was u/IAmUser1234567 I had 17k+ Karma, i didn’t do anything they just banned my account. Now i guess they have created a digital fingerprint or marked my ip address, because if i create a new account it gets banned almost instantly.
I am loving lemmy(using Voyager on my android phone) so much. Reddit anyways now just contains shity cringe content, it is becoming like insta, I am happy to join lemmy family :)
I gladly sacrificed my main account and a few rapid fire ones to say the following, eh-ehm:
“Elon Musk should be hanged and stripped of all wealth and people like Donald Trump and all complicit cronies should meet a worse fate. The fact that none of the Americants haven’t shot him yet is proof that the hegemony is over. Kill them all”
Welcome to lemmy
elon is behind the purges last year, and recently, he tells SPEZ that the posts about him need to stop, and right after when the purges began.
I got banned because I posted about executing the person who decided to make the 4 east-west streets between my westside house and eastside job under construction at the exact same time.
11y account, 108k karma. Repetitively banned by their ai moderation. The latest, like many, overturned by a human, the content restored, and it immediately received a community award. But their ban automation fanned out and banned all my accounts. Because I was banned. Which was overturned. I’m banned for being banned by an ai, despite that ai being overruled. They will not respond to my appeal.
So anyways now I’m getting oriented on lemmy and will contribute here. Reddit can suck it. Their only value was human contribution from the community and they’re working hard to snuff that out.
Edit: s/reward/award
heard that story alot, people were banned after admin unbanned the account, but they dint reset the filters, likely its not possible. since the filters, AI mod, sub filters probably have a record of “this account checks all the lists of a previous banned accounts”.
because your other accounts wernt unbanned, it sees your unbanned account as ban evading, AI definitely cant tell the difference. i think reddit mostly ignores Karma AS A TRUStworthy account since spammers and bots can get those easily , they have other metrics for subs.
Reddit is shitting its pants and killing itself faster than the president.
reddit cozying up to being public, GOOGLE and OPENAI is killing it. the of the worst companies to partner with.
The joke of Reddit is that it’s been decimating its real human userbase while it gobbles up investor cash and sells out wholesale to AI data harvesters.
For whatever reason, the folks with all the money don’t seem to care that they’re throwing enormous sums into a labyrinth of bot-farms. Tens of billions of dollars being pissed away on the Ur-case for Empty Internet Theory.
I never got banned but have left on my own accord. I hope Lemmy really picks up because it’s still pretty niche.
Reddit is like a casino now with the mini games, achievements, micro transactions, etc. it’s beyond annoying. If Apollo was still around I would use it but their proprietary app is dog water.
Reddit has become absolutely garbage in that respect. You can be banned for literally anything. They don’t even send you a message telling you why anymore. Appeals go into a black hole.
How rude of Reddit!
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Fuck /u/spez
Yep happened to me too I had a good 60k+ Karma on a 5 year old account.
Say that Nazis should be fought back against and that Child predators should be locked away for life and Reddit decided I was a dangerous individual and banned me.
Hehehe, fuck them
I don’t know how that works, is 60k karma good? That’s post karma, not comment karma, right?
usually makes your ACCOUNT more trusted originally, but they look at CQS scores, its hidden not available to normal users, i think there is a way of detecting that, but its not in a easy way though.
No idea, I rarely posted, I mostly commented.
Probably some sort of AI-driven auto moderation to cut costs at the expense of their users. Sorry that happened to you but glad you found your way here. I was one of seemingly few uses who actually left permanently after they killed the API after ~10 years of daily use. It’s only gotten much much worse since then while Lemmy and Piefed keep getting better.
Check out Blorp and Voyager on mobile, and Photon on PC.
I was one of seemingly few uses who actually left permanently after they killed the API
You and me both! I left and never went back and it’s been one of the best decisions I ever made.
How did you replace the crack that’s niche communities?
You don’t replace them. You just deal with the lack of them. As well as the lack of super interesting content and niche contributors (i.e.: “Geologist here!” and so on).
I’d like to think that one day the Fediverse attains that level of adoption but it seems the only “free” protocols that attain that is podcasts. But that was created like 20 years ago and a large portion of so-called podcasts (that are more like just video roundtables or interviews) aren’t even distributed at all anymore. So as a society we are moving in the opposite direction.
You just deal with the lack of them.
Sigh
Yeah dude. We live in a world where very few people care at all about personal freedoms or getting fucked. That’s just the way it is.
Yeah fam u.u i feel ya…
Hard times–and it’s not even just reddit.
The things we once took for granted are now associated with new hardship because profit for Party A requires suffering for Party B.
Every new loss I encounter, I no longer have the energy to get upset. I just resign myself. “Oh well. That figures. Just gotta accept it and adjust.”
It’s weird how I’m less emotionally volatile and vulnerable than I had ever been in prior stages of my life despite the world having become distinctly worse since then. But … getting upset takes energy; i have no energy to spare.
I was one of seemingly few uses who actually left permanently after they killed the API after ~10 years of daily use.
Same, 11+ years. 🫡 The more time goes on the prouder I am of leaving as soon as I did. Seems like it very quickly turned into a much worse place.
I also left after the api drama after 9 years and many thousands of comments.
I’m happy with my move to lemmy. There are some rough areas in the tech and definitely some personalities to watch out. But I think the experience is good
Nice! 🤝
Yeah, I’m happy to work with/around the kinks and bug report when I can if I run into weirdness.
And yeah, some weirdos are inevitably on here as well, I’ve already had the displeasure of running into several of them. I tag them and make sure I don’t interact after that.
it was downhill when they allow propaganda bots to flood the site from '18, one of the first purges of the time was around that time.
Adding Summit to the list of clients for Android. I personally like that one the best.
and only the admins can unban people, since there are so few of them, they likely ignore most appeals. also they automatic ignore any subsequent accounts than the one you original got banned on too,.
I was on Reddit for a couple of years before creating an account, but I couldn’t stand seeing another “one of us” crowd surf the whole thing to enshitification during the API thing so I’ve stopped going there.

(X) Doubt
have fun on lemmy, try not to get ‘banned’ again
Not sure what you mean to imply here? I’m met with a page that says the user deleted their account. Couldn’t that have happened after they got banned?
does it even have a different response for banned accounts?
No idea, it’s been years since I was a redditor now. 😅
it used to, but now since its mostly AI driven bans, or shadowban. for sitewide ban they just give a generic Ai generated response, usually goes like this : “your account was banned for these violations(s). see the tos”, it doesnt tell the reason for the ban anymore, thats when you know its AI generated. shadowban wont tell you are banned, you only find out once you stop getting responses from people(like you been commenting for a few days but nobody responds") , they have been using that so liberally because it doesnt tip of potential spammers, and users, plus it obfuscate thier reasons for banning you.
Indeed… Such a… sorrow… So much of human priceless precious finite life time… is…

I’ve deleted all my banned accounts. This doesn’t prove anything.
reddit keeps tabs on all accounts they banned, even if they are deleted, its just in case you try to create new ones, they refer to the old ones. Also i noticed some deleted accounts doesnt erase all your comments too.
…how do you delete a banned account? It doesn’t let you log in anymore.
Yeah it does. You just cant post, upvote, etc.
I mean, you can say that all you want, but I cannot log into mine. I’m not talking one sub ban, or a temp one , but an admin level site wide permaban. And all related accounts also shut down.
You still have full access to your account information. You just can’t participate in anything. Reddit has a fingerprint on me so any new account I make is banned with a few hours (until I get a new pc which I’m hoping to soon, and even then I might never go back). Once I figured I was fingerprinted I just made a random bullshit account with a fake email that got banned pretty quick that I use for a few subreddits on my pc that I’m actually subscribed to.
So when I go onto my pc, I’m logged into a rando account I made just so I could sub to some of my sports subs, local news subs, and a few novelty subs I enjoyed over the years to keep up with news. All my main accounts I had over the years are all deleted.
I’m unable to log into any of my banned accounts. It just pretends my username doesn’t exist.
they fingerprint your browser(what kind of browser, the version, if you have it minimized or not, etc) other things they look for is components of some of your device, time and date. they eventually will sniff out vpns/PROXIES if doesnt have it in thier database already. other specific things like, are using a google email(they seem to trust those more) or those temp emails. allegedly brave hid your fingerprinting, thats why some reported they dint get banned for a while.
I kept advocating the guillotine for politicians who betray their people and/or rape kids. Apparently that’s me being evil.
I really do detest these corporate run sites lacking the two brain cells to get that you are allowed to kill in self defense, and discussing it is not the same as “threatening violence.” Bud. Mod. DUDE. When you are fighting malignant societal cancer, there is no valid argument about “dehumanizing them;” They did that to themselves when they started removing our rights to self autonomy, free movement and expression. This goes beyond “philosophical disagreements,” it’s an unbridgeable ideological schism at this point.
What you mean you don’t want to compromise with people who’d happily enslave you and your peers as permanent underclass? Wow, you’re just unreasonable. /s
IKR?
And you should feel bad! /s
If you need the /s then your sarcasm isn’t good.
I got here because some bot posted political ragebait in r/AskReddit and I got tired of censoring myself, so I noted I was, and the Mods got butthurt about it. It was venting, more than anything, but (boom) permanent account suspension. I even deleted the posts immediately because I still hadn’t reloaded the page. Hasn’t seemed to matter.
Really bites too because 90% of what I was on there for was Mine/Hermitcraft content and engagement.
the main subs are always monitored, and botted, best to avoid it. i was commenting on question one time about movies/actors, and someone dint like what i said, i was criticizing one of the trek actors.
I too am tired of censoring myself, boss. It’s like people simply can’t accept that it’s ok to have a different opinion than they.
I am very much sorry to know that, heartfelt… and I hope you will find peace, dear @[email protected] …
I do believe it’s impossible to get unbanned. Not only that, but they don’t even explain the reason, too…
For years, they don’t respond for my time-ivesting appeals requests, and I still have no idea why and when I got shadow-banned:
- https://lemmy.world/comment/21676673It might be their sorrowful automation system at the start of them trying “AI” and I got into a list by a mistake, yet no one ever cared or will care, I believe, because it’s Reddit - one of the most popular forum-like social marketed out there.
I’ve invested ~340 Euro into the account at Reddit giving awards mostly, and a few NFT avatars, and for what?
I lost hope in Reddit, and won’t consider their support or anything serious from that point, unfortunately…
Such a… sorrow… So much of human priceless precious finite life time… is…It’s really upsetting because I was in my mid teens when I first got into Reddit, and I definitely joined at one of it’s peaks - the second lockdown. Fuck me that was so much fun, that was the time I actually reached out and got mental health support for my ADHD, and connected to some really great online communities. One of them was the reddit adhd subreddit, but besides that I loved how interconnected the subreddit humour was, and how everyone seemed like they could just tune into the same vibe as you. I quickly lost track of the amount of incredibly balanced, well informed discussions, debates, casual conversations and joking I ended up getting into. I was going to a really shitty private school where I really just didn’t gel well with anyone, so I seriously loved all that online connection, it definitely did me a lot of good.
Ever since u/spez removed the community extensions and old awards, Reddit has seriously fallen off. I honestly think most of the OG users left when the blackout protests were forced to an end due to spez and other admins straight up booting mods that were collaborating in the lockdowns. Then the end of the yearly pixel art purely because people wrote “Fuck u/spez” was honestly the last straw that killed any chance of me ever potentially forgiving how badly he betrayed everyone and everything he built, all for corporate profits.
Fuck u/spez for destroying everything he built, fuck Reddit, fuck social media subscriptions, and fuck all of this corporate bullshit. Companies need to realise that there will always be alternatives that users will migrate to on the internet, and we should absolutely punish them loudly when they violate our fucking respect the way they’ve been doing so shamelessly lately. Lemmy is exactly the kind of experience that was purged from Reddit that I needed, and I’m glad that I’m now starting to spend more time here.
Reddit is just too botted out to be a reasonable place for a conversation anymore.
There’s two back and forths before someone gets angry and everyone has a personal anecdote that contradicts any point anyone makes.
Not in my experience I had one time
lol this made my day
funny reddi thinks thier bans are stopping bots, but the people who owns the bots, have ways around it. propaganda farms dont care if they get banned they will just keep switching around using different IP and making more bots, while single users with alot of accounts have to use something more sophisticated to get around it. reddit is like 50-60% bots, and many subs are just AI generated posts
I still lurk on reddit but I figure with an adblocker on all I’m really doing is costing them bandwidth and lowering the revenue-per-user that they get to report to their investors. Plus r/conservative is the single best place I’ve found on the internet to keep track of the specific swirling toilet bowl known as right-wing ‘culture’
They ban over the smallest things. I’m tired of also having to cater to the dumbest mods all the time.
Some of them are here too. They create and mirror popular reddit subs just so that they can decide who can speak and who can’t.
I thought so.
