Discovered in the Alps in 1991, the remains are home to a wide variety of bacteria, fungi and yeasts

In unrelated news, people across the world are shitting themselves to death. Scientists still trying to assess this one.

I used to think b-rated sci-fi flicks had crappy plot hooks about how scientists would just release the world ending plot hook like that.

And then polish scientists released cannibal ants from an abandoned Soviet nuclear bunker to see what they’d do.

First, God sent the locusts. Americans voted them into office. So God came up with plan B: diarrhea.

One small throwaway line about how scientists made sourdough with a yeast strain from him.

I know every single headline now is click bait but this didn’t even say shit about who made the bread or how it turned out or anything whatsoever actually about scientists making bread with an ancient yeast.

I imagine the worst outcome would be if the bread was unbelievably delicious. They can’t exactly source more of it.

I can’t imagine an ancient yeast would taste much different than sourdough made from modern wheat, especially if you use the same grain the iceman had available back in his time like einkorn. You’d still end up with tangy sourdough

The point is obviously getting as close as possible to cannibalism, without actually being cannibalism.
