Wanna bet they fuck it up just like they did the control panel and the right-click menu?
And file explorer, and the start menu, and the task bar, and Outlook…
And notepad and the task manager
Fixing the right click menu was the first thing I did after installing W11, the new one is basically useless
Fun fact: especially for those machines where you cannot install any modifications to Windows, you can get the old context (right click) menu by holding shift while right clicking.
There’s also a registry edit to make it the default without having to remember a modifier key
What I did as soon as I learned about this
That’s good to know! Unfortunately, even editing the registry is hard to do on a lot of work machines.
I can’t wait for around 80% of features moving to this one and needing to perform some kind of ancient incantation to access the old version for the remaining 20%
Why are the literal only two things they know how to do:
- spamming AI slop into shit
- half-assedly, inconsistently and pointlessly pick some old-ass UI to “reinvent” in a worse way than the 9x era shit??
Seriously? (Well, not seriously seriously. Rhetorically “seriously”.)
Great. How about stop spying on us first?
We hear you loud and clear - here’s more Copilot!
Also: Recall
Microsoft has a responsibility to support decades-old software, which is why you can download an app or game made for Windows 95 and still run it on Windows 11.
Eh, debatable, some titles of the 90s might not run, even if you set the executable to run in compatibility mode.
My other concern is that WinUI surfaces have historically paid a cold-start cost when loading the runtime. Even today, File Explorer’s WinUI context menu gets criticized for exactly that. The WinUI-based Home tab in File Explorer is slower than “This PC,” which does not use WinUI.
M$ wondering why people are pinching their noses when near w11 when they’ve been slopping all over it. Release something broken, “fix” it later, only this is going way, way worse than XP (which needed 2 service packs to “feel good” and be safer), Vista (which needed W7) and even 8 (which needed W10)
Yeah, this will be a vibecoded disaster.
IIRC they had to start overclocking your CPU a while back, when you right-click on a file so the Win11m rightclick menu loads faster than after like 8 seconds.
space cadet pinball runs better on linux than any modern windows
Still trash
I still type appwiz.cpl into search to open the old add and remove programs box to uninstall or see whats installed. I am not a fan of the newer looking one at all located in the new settings area. It is pretty funny that they have been working on trying to fully replace all the old windows elements since the beginning of 10 and still not even close. Even funnier that when it is replaced the old stuff still gets left behind and not removed either.
And ncpa.cpl for network settings. And regedit. And msinfo32. And and and…
New ui stuff is so shit. Dozens of clicks. Always moving around. Annoying af
I absolutely hate the network settings now as well. Its now easier to just get cmd to find out my IP if needed instead of getting to the adapter and open to see the info and up time. Its just extra steps to do that same thing now and i always forget what to click on when under the new settings network page. If anything it should just be info displayed there by default which would be nice…
win+r, enter, ipconfig, enter. How I do it in actuality haha
I am too lazy to do that and just keep control panel pinned to my taskbar.
More shit to relearn. What would takes seconds now takes minutes due to a clunky UI designed for looks rather than efficiency.
What I really don’t understand is how Microsoft has a near religious dedication to backwards compatibility at the technical level, but will move on to whatever next shiny object they see when it comes to compatibility at the user level.
Relearning the basic functionality of operating a computer every few years rests entirely on the end user, and never on the developer. It’s aggressively backwards.
Pretty easy to explain, you’re not the customer, corpos paying 8 figures annually who need to run their 90s software are
The upgrade we’ve all be waiting for.
