The primary instrument for NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a sophisticated camera that will survey the cosmos from the outskirts of our solar system all the way out to the edge of the observable universe. Called the Wide Field Instrument, it was recently delivered to the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
TIL about the unfortunate naming of this telescope. I will forever refuse to speak it’s full name, for fear of empowering those who shall not be named.
Is there a controversy about Nancy Grace Roman that I haven’t heard about? I’m very excited about this telescope and very excited that it’s named after her.
Oh that. I’m fortunately sheltered enough (by choice and hard work) from the evil talking heads that this didn’t come to mind.
Hopefully the NGR will elbow that horrible woman out of first place for recognition of this name.
