“Fuck whatever you are doing, I want to talk to you right now for not reason at all” is not a very polite message to pass.
If people make themselves uncomfortable just so they can clearly tell you that they do not want to talk to you… it may be because they don’t want to talk to you.
Someone with headphones on does not necessarily mean they wouldn’t want to chat. And a wave doesn’t necessarily mean the waver wants to chat either (I don’t mean waving right next to someone to get their attention)
It’s like fishing. I don’t HAVE to do it. But I enjoy the atmosphere. It’s one of the last things I have left in this world from my youth. I spent almost every free minute I could in school in either the library or computer lab.
I have absolutely no idea at all. Completely blank. I’m not American, so it’s most likely a difference in culture. Chatting to people I know, has always been a pleasant experience.
/I’m serious, I’m completely oblivious to how it’s assholish behaviour to talk to people I know-
Or you could just… socialize 🤔
EDIT: Assuming it’s two people who know each other already. Why would a stranger go up to you, to ask how’s it going, when they don’t know you at all?
You’re the guy in the orange shirt, aren’t you?
The guy asking about his day? Yes.
You are not owed interpersonal interaction because you want it.
Or the other guy could just…leave him the fuck alone.
Why?
Why socialise?
If I recognize someone, then I’ll ask them how’s it going, either to be polite, or because I genuinely care about them

If someone has headphones on, you can wave, and if they take them off then greet them. If they have no headphones in, you can just greet them
If you are waving at people that clearly aren’t in the mood for empty chatting, it’s certainly because you have something important to say.

I completely agree with you, also with the wave and greet. 🤷♀️
I don’t get paid for that
As soon as my job description is updated to professional chitchatter
“WHY ARE YOU SO QUIET???”
Libraries = extroverts’ worst nightmare.
Who goes to libraries these days? I just “download” books.

The Covid-infected atmosphere? No thanks
As if the people stupid enough to not take precautions against covid even know where their local library IS, let alone have any desire to enter 🙄
Where are you? 2020?
They hated Him because he spoke the Truth.

Nobody wants me to do that. You think you do, but you really don’t. One way or another someone’s getting their feelings hurt
YOU just got my very first down arrow!
And then what?
You both go on about your day after a polite exchange
You can’t let people be can you?
If I recognize someone I know, and I’m in a mood to chat, then no, probably not.
And you don’t understand how that may come off as assholish behaviour.

I’m with you bro. After all that lockdown I’m never going to take it for granted again.
Exactly!
So basically exactly the same as if they left me alone? Except now I’m annoyed that I was interrupted for nothing?
