- Why is this shit always opt-out? - Are they afraid it’s a shit feature, so no one would be want to opt in? - Because Techbros really struggle with consent. - they really do
- This dates tactic predates the internet. - Cable, telephone and banks used to do this regularly.

- In a word, yes. - They know it benefits them more than us, so they make it opt-out. - They also know that just a tiny tiny percentage of users will go into settings, and even less actually change something.

- It reframes a thing as your fault if you miss the opt-out window. They are blame free and you failed to protect yourself.
- Because we live in corporate dictatorships with the illusion of “democracy”. - Wait until you find out how most regulations are enforced by “self-reporting”… the honor system, lol.

- Wish I could opt out of having LinkedIn entirely. It makes me so annoyed that so many jobs require you to have it in order to apply - What benefit do they get from requiring it? Surely mandating something like that can only filter the pool of talent available. - Because they probably use an AI to scan your profile
- My guess would be something to do with intermediary application systems used by multiple companies tracking who applies where. Who knows what they’re doing with that data

- Thank you for making this straightforward, otter. I really appreciate the post. - No problem, hope it saved people some time :) - It absolutely did. Thanks a ton!

- This is very easily actionable with the links. Thanks op!
- I just now killed my LinkedIn because it was useless to me anyways. I never got any traction on there aside from people trying to rope me into MLMs or otherwise scam me.
- Also opted out of my data being used for ads while I was at it. Thanks OP.
- Jokes on them, I used AI to write my profile - [feedback intensifies]

- Is it an EU thing that they included a link to do this directly in the announcement mail? Either way, thanks for posting this!
- I went to the first page and it asked for a login :/ - The opt out is specific to your account. If you don’t have an account, its less likely that you have information with them to delete - I guess I’ll never know, because I don’t want to have an account and I also don’t want them to have any data of mine. - I think if you don’t have an account with them, the only relevant bit is here - https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/ask/TS-DPRO - If a LinkedIn account shared something with your information, you can file a request about it - Thanks for the link! Done!
