Related to a recent thread about love for SNW.

I’m worried that the suits at Paramount are under the misconception that the love for SNW is somehow inextricably tied to TOS.

i really think that’s not the case, and has more to do with the fantastic cast, writers, and return to Trek’s roots.

i’m really sad to see it ending. there’s been talks of following it up with a new TOS reboot, but that’s actually NOT what i want. i already have TOS.

what i REALLY want is a Capt. Una spin-off show.

how do people feel about that? has there been any official mention of the concept? are they even aware of that as a possibility that fans might want?

thoughts?

I was under the impression that they do exactly the opposite of what fans want. So, Paramount, if you’re listening, we want a TOS reboot, more Section 31, and everything as movies, please. Under no circumstances do we want an episodic Captain Una show! Please do a prequel to Enterprise instead, but with Borgs. And I mean the ones from Picard S2, of course.

Honestly, I would like to see more of Queen Jurati and her Borg Cooperative. It was a cool idea that, like all the cool ideas in Picard, was poorly developed and overshadowed by nonsense.

A new Star Trek (2027) that just continues from SNW would be great!

Reboot’s are overly maligned. And continuity is a nievely harmful fantasy. You realise TOS got up to warp 14 or something right? It could do with a new version.

      P. S. I’m being serous. I’m not playing your childish reverse psychology nonsense game.

Not sure I’d want a full TOS reboot, but I think a few more retcons wouldn’t hurt so long as they’re in the overall spirit of Trek.

What I’ve mentioned before that I think would be interesting to see is a remake of the TAS episode Yesteryear. Most TAS stories are probably best left as such, or else they would lose their campy charm, but I think Yesteryear could benefit, especially from the dramatic storytelling recent live action Trek has focused on. We could get so much good Vulcan lore out of it, and I’d hope they could do awesome set and costume design.

In my ideal episode, it’s still weeks to months until Sarek takes in Burnham; I feel like otherwise, Spock wouldn’t have to be going back in time to save himself.

Personally, I wasn’t particularly enthused with the character. I didn’t gravitate towards her at all. If they did something like that, I’d still check it out because SNW was so good, but I’d rather see something with Ortegas (not as captain, obviously).

I don’t think they’re doing so much of a TOS reboot as a TOS continuation with some retconning and reusing some SNW sets and cast.

I’ve heard it floated around that it would depict the start of Kirk’s mission, which TOS didn’t depict, showing the crew already relatively comfortable with the ship. Personally, I’d like them to something of a year 4/5 that takes place either during or after TAS. As I mention elsewhere in this thread, I think “Yesteryear” would be an awesome remake; it could be pulled off in one 50 minute episode (already double TAS length), but I think it would be awesome to extend it to a two parter.

does it have to? SNW is ending. we won’t have a ship based, traditional Trek show. it would continue on that spirit with Una and any of the new characters from SNW.

I personally think it’s best if a new series has some sort of “hook” that makes it unique - more of the same can be fine, but it’s better to have something that says, “this is why this ship/station/crew is worth following.”

It doesn’t have to be different, but if it isn’t why would Paramount be interested in making it? TNG and DS9 overlapped and were different, same with DS9 and VOY. But TNG and VOY were also very different. I suppose if someone would come up with a cool idea for a Una spin-off that is not just a direct continuation of SNW there might be a chance. Personally I’d be more interested in something set after TNG/Lower Decks to get away from the TOS era, and also stay away from the DIS 32nd century stuff.

i would certainly love and accept that show, but i’m working off of what we have going already.
