People say “this is good because it means the messaging is popular”. I’m a little worried it’s not his message that’s popular, it’s the typical American exceptionalism with a coat of faux-leftist paint on it that’s popular. I personally feel based off pretty much nothing that their “anti war” rhetoric is just pro-American Anti war SPENDING. As soon as it’s seen as just, like a war in Iran based off lies that Iran is killing protesters, even Elizabeth Warren cheered for that before Trump did it.

I don’t think it’s enough. I don’t like veterans. Yeah my family is full of them, but I don’t know them really and I bet they’d sell me down the river for nothing if they learned what my politics are. I’m saying I bet they’d sell would literally want to put me in jail for my ideas.

Platner is a pro-war band aid over a gushing head wound. It may lessen the bleeding but it’s not going to be enough to even slow it for long. It pisses me off to see people not reading the writing on the wall with these murderous women abusing psychos that can just talk the talk and BOOM get elected to office despite how many red flags they have.

I just really don’t like this guy. Call me a wrecker or unhelpful but please don’t let him speak to Arab people about military intervention, like ever.

It’s because people are showing up and voting FOR Platner.

Looking at previous Maine Democratic Primary for Senate. Six years ago Sarah Gideon got 116,264 votes out of 162,681. This time around Graham Platner got 149,206 votes out of 207,068.

Platner is getting people to show up. This is a good sign going into the general.

So the options are Collins, who has a known track record of voting with MAGA, or Platner who has no record of voting with MAGA and has run a campaign that looks nothing like the policy of a MAGA candidate.

Could he completely turn around and vote MAGA? Sure. As could his primary opponent Janet Mills. Or any of the other tiny percentage of Democratic primary opponents.

But you know who will vote with MAGA 94.6% of the time? Susan Collins.

I am going to toot my own horn. A few days ago I wrote something that assumed he already won, and he did win!

I thought this election already took place.

Instead of reflecting on the fact I should know more about USA elections; I’m going to double down and assume the typical election is not worth as much as a toilet rag, and ignore them even more.

Elections will not help anyone but the wealthy.

Why do you view Platner’s success as the death of the US left? I’m missing exactly what it is that makes any of this compare realistically to the transgressions of many Republican and Democrat politicians who have had prolific careers. There will always be disagreements about when a politicians’s behaviors are too much to bear, but I’m struggling to understand why this Primary win by GP signifies the end of the leftist movement in the US.

Because the left in the United States just threw away all their morales for a minor electoral victory, they embraced chauvinism and their own self interest over the interests of the international left as a whole. Showing that the US left has no regard for any one else in the world other than themselves. Why is this petite bourgeoise war criminal being embraced by the left? Just call yourselves corporatists already stop calling yourselves leftists if you don’t want to embrace class struggle and internationalism.

I’m not exactly sure why people say the left died with this, it’s been dead for decades. They must have a different definition than me.

Disregarding personal scandals, This winner here is far right by European standards, is literally a war criminal and is promoted by many people who are not conductive to national health.

Should he win the general, he will have zero positive impact.

DNC is directly & actively responsible for genocide in Gaza. So if your single issue is Healthcare, you’d vote for someone throwing people into concentration camps to get that. It’s literally, by definition, your “single issue”. It’s the dumbest shit ever.

If you don’t think Nazism is still an issue in 2026 you haven’t been paying attention to American Politics. Graham Platner had one of the most recognizable SS/National Socialist/Nazi emblems tattooed on him for years while he went to a middle eastern country and killed brown people. The richest person in the world saluted Hitler on stage. Biden killed atleast thousands of literal children. You should be aware of fascism in 2026. Just because you don’t believe it doesn’t mean shit it’s still a very real problem in white America.

Being in the Red Army is not equivalent to being a Senator. You don’t fuck up and then go into politics and seek out a leadership position as a “second chance.” That’s not forgiveness, that’s just failing to hold politicians accountable and letting powerful people get away with shit.

Humility is a requirement of forgiveness and seeking public office is in complete contradiction to that. You want forgiveness, go volunteer at a soup kitchen or some shit. Don’t fuck up and then immediately go, “I think I deserve to be invested with power.”

You gotta lose the christian mindset. Change isn’t a decision made in your heart and publicly announcing your intentions to everyone.

Change is parity. Change is years of material, real-world, actions building up to show a fundamentally different person.

No, no one can ever be redeemed. But yes, people can show they are a fundamentally different person by working hard for years.

You’ve got me in your first two paragraphs but lose me in the third. I agree that people can show that they’re a fundamentally different person through hard work and successful change, but not that redemption is impossible.

I often like to return to the thought experiment of “if starting now everyone lived forever, how long would we imprison people for their crimes?” Also, we know Plattner was part of multiple evil organizations, but what do we actually know he did for them, because I genuinely don’t know.

Being part of the evil organization is a material action of support.

I mean that you have to lose the liberalism inherent in western culture.

Liberal idealism tells us that only ideas matter - that someone can be redeemed by having and expressing the right ideas. Socialism is at odds with this view. A materialist view would say that the track record of actual actions (not words) can cause a cumulative qualitative change.

So no, redemption (a singular act/expression by which one becomes redeemed) is not real.

presumably all republicans are nazis by whatwver scale your using, yes?

                Collins = nazi

                Platner = possible nazi

                platner still better than collins

zionists sure did spend alot of $ against someone supposedly on their side

You know that the nazis tried to kill Hitler right? Been a Nazi doesn’t mean everyone is in the same team agreeing 100% of the time on everything. This doesn’t proves anything.

If your options are a Nazi and a guy with a Nazi tattoo that loves to kill people you are already fucked, voting every x years alone will not save you.

“Pagan symbols” my guy it is literally only known for this and it is extremely well known for this, there was a whole fucking sketch about this exact symbol that everyone has been quoting for fifteen years.

Did the former abu ghraib guard that was all about military history never see a picture of any concentration camp guard? Has he never seen a movie about a concentration camp? Because that’s what the SS deaths heads units were, the people that staffed the concentration camps and the totenkopf was what they wore on their caps and their uniforms. Guess what’s on the cap of Heinrich Himmler? It’s not the “runes” it’s the totenkopf. The reason that sketch chose that skull is because of it’s prominence.

But yeah let’s have the blackwater merc with an SS totenkopf lead the antizionist yanks. Fucking bonkers.

I think literally everyone else was and it was almost certainly pointed out to him extremely fucking quickly, yet he refused to change it until he was running for office. Besides, its not like the show elevated some obscure symbol: they picked an extremely well known nazi extermination unit symbol because the joke is ha ha, can you imagine anyone wearing this and not knowing they’re evil? And yet they did, how ridiculous!

Why are you hellbent on giving the benefit of the doubt against all logic to a blackwater war criminal who joined the military to kill brown people?

Incredible how much liberals twist facts. Literal totenkopf tattoo and all the excuses made for it and how defensive they get… to defend a literal nazi

dems only care about money but somehow you believe they are anti war?

and you don’t care about the “anti war” dude having a well known nazi fucking symbol tattoed on his chest?

what flimsy fucking justification is this for voting nazis in?

you mean the guy admittedly joining the army to murder brown people abroad who got a very well known nazi symbol tattooed?

no yeah, it’s the billionaires who are brainwashing me into hating fascism.

I agree with you and have been attacked on this thread. It’s really weird. I think this page may be overrun with Mossad bots because it’s exactly like the Mandami attacks.
