FYI: A sperm whale’s lower jaw (mandible) is 16 feet (5 meters) long.

    So it’s really big squid.

You might even call it a giant.

There is one in the video already. It’s wedged in between the whales teeth. You really have to look for it. It’s just in front of the jaw, but you can make out the slightest hint of the yellow skin. The scale is so big it’s hard to see.

No problem. It’s just one of those oddities of nature that sperm whales love bananas. The whale watching boats throw them overboard to attract them for the tourist.

Also along that line alligators love marshmallows. The tour guide use them to lure the alligators to the air boats for the tourists. Big plus is marshmallows float.

            Sometimes nature is just weird.

Edit: found a link about the marshmallows.

You know, here in Australia, the crocodiles don’t like marshmallows, so we just chuck a tourist in the water.

I believe that. Crocodiles have a much more fearsome reputation.

And besides most tourists are obese, and probably just bob there like a noisy unhappy meal.

I bet that squid is having a bad day. How long does it take for the bends to set in?

depends on how much nitrogen is diffused through their bloodstream and soft tissues. for a creature living at those depths, I’d wager: not a lot.

also, nitrogen narcosis is probably not very noticeable compared to being clamped down by 20’ jaws and dragged to the surface while being chewed.

I’d say the bends are the least of its problems.

Squids are naturally bendy so it’s not a problem for them. Humans on the other hand have many bones, and so getting the bends is much more serious.
