The very second I found out that Disney had bought the rights, I swore I would never watch any material they might produce. First, because it’s Disney. Second, well, you know, Palpatine exploded in E VI, so there really was no story to tell after that.
On a weird kind of metaphysical level, I feel that, at the end of the day, it’s up to the fans, and not necessarily the producers, to decide what’s canon and what’s not. And I’ve declared for myself that there is no such thing as a canon sequel trilogy. Normally, I would simply pirate stuff from companies I don’t like, but Disney doesn’t even deserve that treatment. I’m not watching the stuff, and that’s final.
Palpatine exploded in E VI
To be fair, Maul was cut in half and thrown in some ray-filled pit. And it didn’t take Disney to bring him back.

Agreed. But still, the problem there was not that Palpatine returned.
(Even though, more than a decade after characters in Agents of Shield started asking each other “wait, you never died, have you?” people shouldn’t turn as often into that option.)
I would still absolutely recommend Andor, despite Disney. It’s produced by Disney but they gave a ton of creative freedom to Tony Gilroy. It’s also pretty much just a prequel to Episode IV anyway, so it doesn’t really have any relation to the prequels or the sequels. It’s a great piece of art on its own, and could easily stand on its own without Star Wars.
I think The Force Awakens is one of the best films. Right behind Rogue One (which is right behind Empire). And Andor is the best Star Wars put to screen.
The other 2 sequels are trash.

Legit, I enjoyed Episode 7. I was hopeful, not that it would become a new classic trilogy, but as a way of introducing Star Wars to a new generation.
I felt the same way. I’d never seen any star wars before until last year, my star wars nerd roommate and I watch 4-5-6-7-8-9-1-2-3, I finished 7 thinking it was pretty good even if it was just a retelling of 4. Then we watched 8… Oh God, Episode 8… 9 was objectively worse but didn’t hurt as bad because I could tell how bad it was gonna be by 8.
As a lifelong Star Wars fan, 7 was decent. I walked away thinking it was really just a repeat of 4, but it was also Disney’s first try at it so I gave it a little slack. It was a little sloppy in some places and had problems, but not something so tragic.
Rian Johnson ruined Star Wars. It was his lifelong goal, he said it on video. He got what he wanted. 8 was so monumentally bad that I can’t even be mad at 9. Half of 8 didn’t even matter and could have been a deleted scene. It didn’t even leave any loose ends for 9 to wrap up.
Then 9 comes out and while it was bad, it was still better than 8. I have to give JJ Abrams credit, I dont know how he even managed to write a follow up to 8.
I think my biggest gripe is how Disney squandered the opportunity they had to have the original cast together on screen at the same time for one last celebratory film. Well that and their fundamental misunderstanding of Star Wars.
Thankfully with Kathleen gone, maybe Favreau can have more breathing room to invite George for his direct opinion more. Favreau isn’t great either, but at least he has done better than what Kathleen oversaw, more or less.
TLJ is second only to ESB in the saga. it dared to be an actual film.
