I know they meant “worst” in the sense of “bad at math,” but now I’m imagining the world’s worst mathematician trying to figure out how to use math to commit ethic cleansing or poison water supplies or make pugs’ noses even more fucked up or something.

      ethic cleansing

Tbh that doesn’t sound too bad? Like maybe take a nice shower but with cruelty free/plant-based soap that wasn’t animal tested (and obviously there’s no drought concern in this scenario).

That would be ‘ethical cleansing’. Ethic cleansing would be to cleanse ethic, meaning you are getting rid of the ethic. That is basically just erasing one’s morals. I think that’s already being taken care of.

I get using a comma as a radix, sure. It makes grammatical sense, like saying “two, and three tenths”, just a little pause between concepts.

But how does it make any sense anywhere to use a full-stop for grouping digits?! “1.000.000.000.000” looks ludicrous, not to mention we can’t even agree on whether thats a billion or a million!

It doesn’t make grammatical sense, but in a typesetting and writing sense it checks out – comma is the larger of the two symbols

The only Europeans that use the . as a decimal separator are the British and present and former colonies.

All continental Europe except Gibraltar use the ,, and consequently so do most of Africa and South America.

World-map showing a pretty even split between dot and comma as decimal separator.

Most of these hypotheticals are pretty lame. Like… Why would I care if another person got the same amount as me? I would only care if everyone got the same amount because that would cause massive inflation and now my million dollars is worthless.

I’d invent a machine that hits the button 1000 times a second and after a bunch of hours I’d buy Tesla, Amazon, Google and Apple and so on and turn them into companies profitable for humanity.

imagine: you get a dollar but so does elon musk. what would you do?

if everybody presses the button, we end up with a massive wealth inequality problem

and that’s actually how companies operate: the employees work for the company (akin to pressing buttons, just more tedious), and for that they get wages, but the company’s owners also get money that way. repeat the process and the company’s owners end up being massively wealthy, which leads to massive wealth inequality.
