Mardi gras is in February or march. We celebrated new years as normal, except we are an occupied city and the feds had their tanks all over.

Saw a Coast guard boat with a mounted machine gun patrolling the Mississippi for brown people too

Which are they planning to shoot at, the 8-story tall cargo ships or the fake steamboat tour?

Honestly it was probably “terrorism” and less brown people. But I don’t like living like this.

feds had their tanks all over.

At this point someone could start a guessing game of Totalitarian Dictator State or USA from the current quotes and reports from the states.

Mardi Gras season officially begins January 6. Often referred to as twelfth night (of Christmas but we only do Christmas on the 25th), it is the eve of The Epiphany. We celebrate with a walking parade in honor of Joan of Arc.

From there there’s countless celebrations, parades, balls, etc leading up to Fat Tuesday which this year falls on February 17.

So yeah, this is accurate. For us the holiday season doesn’t end until lent.

Edit: that isn’t to say we don’t celebrate New Year’s but everybody is already getting ready for their Mardi Gras activities.

You’re telling me Louisiana is celebrating a French (assumed highly likely gay) female freedom fighter turned martyr? How un-American progressive. Don’t tell Trump, is my advice.

Been in New Orleans during New Year’s. This was a decade ago…they love New Years and don’t push mardis gras during this time. It’s a party town, so they aren’t missing one of the biggest reasons all year to party

I am formerly from the New Orleans area. This was the tree decoration schedule. November 1st, the (fake) tree goes up. Most people decorate it for Thanksgiving initially but some go straight to Christmas. January 1st (or 2nd depending on the hangover), the christmas decorations.come down and the tree is decorated for Mardi Gras. On Ash Wednesday (or Thursday depending on the hangover) the Mardi Gras decorations come down and the St. Patrick’s decorations go up. The morning after St. Patrick’s (or the day after that depending on hangover) the decorations come down as does the tree.

All but the above holidays have an accompanying float parade (Thanksgiving parades are not as plentiful). You throw beads for Mardi Gras, and potatoes and cabbage (and beads) for St. Patrick’s. Showing tits is allowed during Mardi Gras and New Years (maybe St. Patrick’s). Do not flash during Thanksgiving or Christmas parades unless you want your ass thoroughly kicked as thise are meant to be family friendly occasions.
