Our drummer solved this problem by having our rehearsals where his drumkit is permanently set up.
This is the way.
That, or get everyone in the band to agree to rent a practice space somewhere convenient for everyone that already has a kit set up.
Some party friends i had years ago were in a band. Good band too! heavy metal with violins. They rented a garage in a warehouse district that was strictly for commercial use only. 2 of them lived in the attic of the garage after they hauled up some plywood and couches and stuff. It was suuuuper sketch when we were all up in the ‘bedroom’ having a session before the practice started. whole garage was like 10ft wide and 30ft deep and there were at least 20 people just drinking and smoking and just chilling every week.
Man…good times, good times.
Guitar: No power FFUUUUUUU
Bass: No speaker FFUUUUUU
Drum: UNGA BUNGA
Keyboard player [32 minutes after wondering why they’re getting no volume]: “Why is velocity sensitivity four clicks into the menu where I update my firmware?! Whatever, that oughta fix it” (compressor effect that’s only visible while holding down a shift key and moving the volume knob simultaneously is still active and set to a threshold of -48db)
When I was a sound tech the drummer was always the first to arrive and the last to leave. With the diva singer being the complete opposite.
But also, it doesn’t matter how soon or late they arrive and get set up… They’ll always wait until you’re mic’ing the kit and your head is riiiiiight next to their snare to start testing things.
Vocalist: “I’m always ready. 😎”
A guitar player with no pedal board?
Bro shows up with a guitar and a Nano Cortex. No pedal board. No amp.
Given that there are amps and AIO synth, I assume this is meant to be a high school band rehearsal place? Then the drummer should already have that place’s kit set up for him, it’s not like they can even afford their own, nevermind the bags for it.
Reminds me of a story I once read.
Guy is doing his laundry on the night of his 26th birthday. He realizes that he’s a complete loser. There’s a flier on the wall looking for musicians. He calls the number and makes an appointment.
He drives up and sees a bunch of teenagers standing around outside a garage.
“Is this the tryouts?”
“Man, you don’t need to try out. You’ve got a van, you’re our manager!”
If your bassist shows up with a left handed Hofner - that’s actually Paul McCartney in disguise.
except that Peavey amp has the mass of a collapsed star
Yeah. This also brought to you by someone that has never tuned a guitar.
Loving the drum memes lately. I recently got some drums and I love them. They go bang and crash when I hit them!
Badumm-tss even!
“I ask you how is playing drums. You say it’s too much shit to carry.”
Don’t mind me, just eating this bowl of M&Ms with all the brown ones removed.
I used to work in a roadhouse, and I remember one band had this in their rider as a joke… But our producer actually took the time to pick out all of the brown ones from a giant fishbowl.
The band was equally amused and horrified when they realized. The lead singer was like “yeah we added that to our rider as a joke. We’ve never had anyone actually do it before. Now I feel kinda bad that she had to sit there and dig all of them out…”
Meanwhile, she had an entire bowl of brown M&Ms sitting on her desk to snack on.
So, it was originally more than a joke.
More a heuristic to verify whether the venue manager had bothered to read and comply with the contract for a pyrotechnics heavy performance.
Oh, I know the origins. I just thought it was funny that a band added it to their rider as a joke many decades later, and then was aghast when they realized they had contractually obligated someone to sit there and sort through their entire fish bowl. Like I said, every other venue they had been to simply ignored that line.
thats when you surrender to the folk gods and just start playing cajón
*plays the world’s smallest violin*
Also very little set up time for tiny violins
That’s why I play 'em.
Keyboard is going to need some amps or PAs as well there to plug into.
Yep, but oftentimes the PA stays at the venue. So it’s just „DI-Box go Brrrrrr“
