Since no one else has mentioned this you can see a major difference in the knees. The meniscus is tough cartilage shock absorber that sits between the femur and the tibia. The woman on the left appears to have compacted them on both sides judging from the narrow gap. The woman on the right has a larger gap indicating good cushioning. I expect left to have knee pain.

Look at all the fat that has accumulated around the bigger ladies heart. That’s one of the reasons obesity kills. Fatty adipose tissue is extremely vascular, meaning it has a lot of blood flowing through it, so that the store can be utilized as energy when the need arises. This means a lot more blood, which means your heart has to work harder, pumping more blood, further into deep recesses of these fatty deposits. At the same time as your heart is being stressed, fatty tissue accumulates around the heart, making it harder for the heart to pump, not to mention that more mass has been added to their frame, so when they lie down, more weight sitting on the heart, giving it an even harder time pumping.

This is why obesity kills, and why preaching “healthy at every size” is objectively wrong. Too much fat kills you. It’ll kill you dead. Years off your life.

healthy at any size is less about “you don’t have to care about your body” and more about “starving yourself isn’t necessary for you to be happy”, and this isn’t an example of it. remember that the movement took shape as a reaction to the fashion of the late aughts, where everything above visible ribs was “plus size”. it ignored that every body has a different shape and focused entirely on the skinny look.

starving yourself leads to nutrient imbalance, which not only hurts your internal organs but usually leads to gaining back all of the weight. what’s needed is careful monitoring of calorie and nutrient intake over a longer period. losing more than 1kg a week is considered unhealthy.

It should be dignity at any size. Heart disease and diabetes are not healthy. Dignity as a person and deserving of compassion, not ridicule? Yes.

          Well… yes and no.

I’ve come across people who are (and I’m using the word very intentionally here) proudly obese, often morbidly so. In point of fact, my grandmother was; she simply didn’t see it as a problem.

That whole mentality, to me, has pretty strong echoes of the idiotic dogmatic shit the hard right gets into (read: ivermectin, bleach, antivax/autism fearmongering, etc). It’s not admirable that you look like that if you are super fat. You’re not attractive, and you’re definitely not healthy. I am not advocating for shaming - clearly it’s a healthcare matter that should be addressed by the person’s healthcare providers - but reveling in a deeply unhealthy body state is completely unhinged for more than a few reasons.

I’m relatively confident I’ll be downvoted aggressively for saying that, but whatever.

Especially when other health conditions make weight control difficult or impossible. Any size person is a real person that can have just as shit opinions as the rest of us.

How about, “it’s not socially acceptable to mock, or otherwise comment on others physical form unless invited to do so by that person.”

But that makes for poor sound bite/click bait.

The body positive movement for the overweight was a reaction to a long tradition of a large number of people just thinking it’s ok to openly mock “fat people” because “it’s their fault for being lazy and ugly, and we should just tell them all the time in case they don’t already know, also it’s funny and makes me feel better about my own personal failures that are less outwardly obvious”. But you probably know that already.

well no, health also factors into it. being under your “ideal” weight is unhealthy, and that’s what that lead to. of course your ideal weight shifts with things like muscle mass, so they challenged the idea that skinny equals healthy.

This is interesting, but I’d like more context. Such as height difference and how much of that weight is located or not in other regions women typically store weight / fat.

Not a radiologist but I wanted to make clear that these are two different women. You can see there is a height difference by looking at the ankle bones. The woman on the right is several inches taller.

She also appears to be standing on her tiptoes.

I am a very obese man. My current doctor hasn’t stated this outright but my previous doctor did (politely) and observed that, as people gain weight, they tend to angle their feet outwards for balance. I wonder if that’s related to what’s happening here.

The hip bones also appear to be angled differently too, as if her legs are rotated, which could also explain the ankle?

        Though not the knees apparently.

We in the industry typically call that the “face”

Do some art and youll realize the skull is a lot higher than you might expect

face is not the same level as the skull? that would be an interesting rearrangement.

If you have paid attention to the anatomy this seems like a body scan from the front (I don’t know if they stack multiple layers though) which could be a more reasonable argument against those white blobs being at the back of the skull. In that case it seems the body is tucking some extra fat around your eye sockets (which is a part of the skull lol)
